My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.

10/7/24  2 for 1 Special! Buster and Roscoe are the BEST boys. They were dumped and thankfully and kind lady has been watching over them and feeding them, giving them a safe place to hang out. But she doesn't have a fenced yard and we fear that they will wander and get hurt. Recently, before they were neutered, a female dog nearby was in heat and the boys went on an adventure with her, and Buster got lost. Several days passed and during that time, Roscoe mourned got him. He refused food and was inconsolable, sitting her yard, audibly crying. It was so bad that neighbors began calling to check on him because they could hear his cries. Thankfully, Buster returned a few days later and it was party time! The 2 were so happy to see each other! We hate to make it a requirement for them to be adopted together, because it is so hard to find a home for even one, let alone two. But in their case, we feel that they would grieve to death if separated. We found the female who was in heat, who belongs to someone nearby. We had her spayed and both boys were already scheduled to be neutered which has now been done. These boys are incredibly social and SMART. They know several commands. They love kids. They love other dogs. They have excellent recall and aside from that 1 incident, they stay close by, only visiting immediate neighbors who give them treats and pets. They really are wonderful. They just need a home. The lady who has been feeding them loves them but she wants them to be safe. Immediate neighbors are no danger to them, but if they wander any further, there are people in the area who will harm them. The vet estimated then at 1 year old. They know sit, down, out, and don't jump. They greet visitors enthusiastically, but they do not jump on them. They are happy to sit at your feet and get pets and have learned how to ask for attention gently. They love lying on the porch and watching the deer graze. They never bother the deer, they just enjoy watching them. These boys are peaceful. They have no desire to cause any problems or challenge anyone. They are submissive and gentle in nature. We are hoping and praying for a miracle. That someone special will see them and fall in love, and give them a good home together. There is no adoption fee. The transport fee is $150 each, if they transport to the northeast. They are fully vetted.

More about this rescue

Adopt-A-Stray was founded in Jan. 2010, by Kelley Prichard. Since then, it has grown to include a few wonderful volunteers who work very hard to help ensure that our pets are place in loving, forever homes. We are based in Alexander, AR, but we list all of our available pets in the northeast. We work with several different transporters to get our babies to their new homes in the northeast once they are adopted. The transporter we use most often Pack Leaders (www.plrdogtransport.com). All pets are given age appropriate vaccinations before they leave. Every pet is seen by our vet prior to transport. If you see a pet listed that interests you, please be sure to read the description thoroughly and inquire to the email address listed. Thank you for considering a rescue dog!
