Onyx and Opal were found on September 26th in a cemetery between Neosho and Seneca. The next day, the person who spotted them came back for them despite already having a collection of 7 strays of his own - which led to him desperately searching for placement for them amongst the local shelters here.
Upon intake, these sweet pups both appeared underweight, wormy, and missing several patches of fur each, indicating that the length of time they have been on their own to be not insignificant. Their Samaritan had believed them to be puppies, but their teeth indicate that they're actually young adults around 7 months of age.
They are both loving and easy-going dogs, content to lay on any kind of towel or blanket they can find and stick close as possible to any humans they can. Onyx especially was noted as being exceptionally human-focused, persistently seeking out as much focused attention as he is able.
These two are closer in size to "pocket-pitties" (both under 35 lbs) and will be an easy and delightful addition to any household. Their mellow, calm, and captivating demeanors make them an easy choice as do their big, pleading eyes, floppy, expressive ears and their pint-sized frames.
Multiple staff members have already mentioned them as their favorite candidates for dogs they'd love to have in their own homes; they haven't been here long but they've already found a secure and fond spot in everyone's hearts.
They've been here for almost a month already, and we are finally starting to see bursts of their personalities as they get more comfortable! Onyx is showing how much he enjoys playing; he's getting a huge kick out of wrestling, chewing, and tugging. He may be little, but he is mighty, and loves to exert himself in typical pit terrier fashion.
