My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Opal and Onyx were found on September 26th in a cemetery between Neosho and Seneca. The next day, the person who spotted them came back for them despite already having a collection of 7 strays of his own - which led to him desperately searching for placement for them amongst the local shelters here.

Upon intake, these sweet pups both appeared underweight, wormy, and missing several patches of fur each, indicating that the length of time they have been on their own to be not insignificant. Their Samaritan had believed them to be puppies, but their teeth indicate that they're actually young adults around 7 months of age.

They are both sweet and mild dogs, content to lay on any kind of towel or blanket they can find and stick close as possible to any humans they can. Opal is just as much of a sweetheart as her brother, and her floppy ears, little underbite, and soulful eyes are irresistibly adorable.

These two are closer in size to "pocket-pitties" (both under 35 lbs) and will be an easy and delightful addition to any household. Their mellow, calm, and captivating demeanors make them an easy choice as do their big, pleading eyes, floppy, expressive ears and their pint-sized frames.

Multiple staff members have already mentioned them as their favorite candidates for dogs they'd love to have in their own homes; they haven't been here long but they've already found a secure and fond spot in everyone's hearts.

They've been here for almost a month already, and we are finally starting to see bursts of their personalities as they get more comfortable! Opal is a surprisingly athletics player - she's shown a real interest in playing tug. She will hop and jump up in the air to play with her toy and stubbornly holds on tight. She may be little, but she is mighty, and she loves to exert herself in typical pit terrier fashion. Her favorite games don't negate what a cuddlebug she is, however.
