Estimated birth date: 5/1/24
Personality: Hesitant, Mouthy (puts mouth on you but does not bite down, usually thinking your fingers are food), Nervous, Quiet, Very shy (you are unable to touch this animal without it running away or being fearful, etc).
Favorite treats: Hasn't been receptive to treats yet.
Current Diet: Oxbow Essentials Adult Rat Food
Favorite toys and activities: JD is still very scared and timid. He hasn't interacted with his wheel, treat puzzles, or hammocks. .
Potty trained: No.
This animal’s daily routine: Flexible
BFF: No, but needs a friend in adoptive home.
Other species this pet has been exposed to and reaction: Has became a little bit more open to interaction since being moved to a room with other rats.
Has this animal been exposed to children? What was their reaction? None, at this time we feel he would prefer a home without children.
Health concerns: None
Behavioral concerns: Jersey Devil in our trust training program for general shyness & being mouthy while in his cage. Learn more about our trust training methods at https://www.mnpocketpetrescue.org/trust-training.
10/8: Jersey Devil has previously been very frantic and scared using biting as way to avoid human interaction. We are slowly getting Jersey used to being touched and talked to using a soft calm voice, offering treats, & going very slowly with introducing new things to him.
Other notes: We think there is a high likelihood that JD had no socialization with humans before being put outside to fend for himself. Luckily he was caught in a live trap and brought into our care. JD will need a special adopter who understands rat body language and has a quite home to allow him to settle in and continue to gain trust towards humans.
JD was found outside & brought to MNPPR for care.
