How this pet arrived:
Chocolate was brought in by Humane Law Enforcement on August 28, 2024.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Chocolate, a resilient senior who has been through quite a bit, but is full of heart. He came into our care in rough shape and has undergone significant medical care, including a surgery to remove his left eye. While he's healing well, his cone will need to stay on until at least 9/14. Chocolate also has some skin concerns, dental disease, and is missing part of his lower jaw, so a follow-up dental appointment with a veterinarian will be key to maintaining his health and comfort. Despite it all, this little trooper is ready to find a loving home where he can relax and be cared for in his golden years. Think Chocolate might be the one for you? Come meet him today and don't forget to bring a leash and collar!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
