Additional adoption info
At Kitty Cottage we only place our cats with loving people in good, permanent homes. You must be at least 25 years old to adopt a cat from Kitty Cottage. Cats live on average 10 to 18 years. During a cat’s lifetime, the cat’s owner often experiences life changes, like moving, getting a roommate, dating, getting married, getting divorced, acquiring other pets, going to college, traveling, and having babies. We only adopt to people who will commit to making the adjustments necessary to keep their cat for the cat’s whole life, even in the face of their lives’ many challenges.
In addition, we only place our cats with people who satisfactorily complete an adoption profile form, meet with us at Kitty Cottage to talk about their profile form, give us three favorable references plus a veterinarian reference, and sign our adoption agreement. Kitty Cottage reserves the right to decline any adoption in our sole discretion.
Generally it takes a day or two for us to reach all your references by telephone, so we will ask you to come back a day or two after you apply to pick up your new friend.
If you are interested in adopting a cat, please bring you photo ID drivers license, the names and phone numbers of three references, and the name and phone number of the veterinarian you use. If you rent your home or apartment, please also bring your landlord’s name and phone number. We need to be sure a cat will be permitted where you live. Otherwise, you might be forced by your landlord to return the cat to us.

More about this rescue
Kitty Cottage Adoption Center, Inc. is a no-kill shelter for rescued and surrendered cats and kittens in the Greater Philadelphia area. Our mission is to facilitate adoptions by housing the cats in a cage-free, home-like shelter where adopters and cats can interact and thus be matched up more effectively than if the cats were restricted to cages. All of our cats are spayed and neutered, tested for FIV/FELV, dewormed, micro-chipped and are up to date on shots.
Our environment is ideal for senior citizens and those with disabilities to enjoy the comfort and therapeutic value of being around animals. Education also plays a big part in our mission. We emphasize the importance of spaying and neutering to the many groups, including children, who visit our facility. Our goal is to minimize the amount of unwanted kittens born in the community. We also strive to increase the likelihood that owners will provide a lifetime of care to their cats by providing counseling on cat behaviors and behavior problems.
Kitty Cottage has found new homes for over 4000 cats since our shelter opened in February 2002. There are approximately 35-50 cats/kittens in the shelter at any time. We only accept new cats as room permits, and there is always a waiting list for surrenders.
Kitty Cottage depends primarily on volunteers to provide for the daily care and maintenance of the facility and its residents. We have approximately 60 hard-working volunteers who provide daily attention to the cats to socialize them and prepare them for loving homes.
