My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Ruger – Your New Best Friend!

Are you a fan of Aussies? Then Ruger, at only 42 pounds and 3 years old, might just be the perfect match for you! This handsome, intelligent Australian Shepherd came to us as a stray after his previous owner never claimed him from a small shelter. Despite that, he’s proven to be a resilient and loving dog, ready for a fresh start in a forever home.

At first, Ruger was understandably anxious in his foster home, but day by day, his sweet, smart, and playful personality has blossomed. Now, he’s a bundle of joy and energy! Ruger would love to have another playful dog or kids to romp around with. If you have a big backyard, that's a bonus—Ruger adores playing in sprinklers and will happily engage in a game of fetch (when he’s in the mood, of course!).

More than anything, Ruger loves being close to his people. Whether you're inside or outside, he’ll stick by your side, always ready to be your loyal companion. He’s also quite the quick learner—he mastered the doggie door in just one day and hasn’t marked in the house. He does well in the car, loves walks, and loves to chase squirrels. At night, Ruger sleeps quietly in his crate, though he'd be thrilled to snuggle up with you if given the chance.

If you’re looking for a smart, loyal, and loving dog, Ruger is ready to bring joy and companionship into your life. Could you be the family he's been waiting for?

We are a RESCUE GROUP, not a shelter, and all of our animals are in foster homes. To start the adoption process, email us at adoptions@earstexas.org requesting an application. Submitting an application does not commit you in any way, but helps us make the best match between people and our available dogs. Your current or past dogs must be inside dogs who have been spayed/neutered and are on heartworm prevention.

All of the dogs in our program are inside dogs and are completely vetted including all vaccinations, spayed/neutered, free of internal parasites, microchipped, heartworm negative and on prevention before adoption. Our adoption process includes an application, check of vet records or personal references, interview, neutral site meet & greet with the dog and your family, and a home visit.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

We do not have a shelter, as all of our rescue animals are living with foster families in private homes. You can meet one of our animals by appointment once your adoption application had been processed and initially approved (final approval occurs right before the adoption is complete). Also, EARS has Meet and Greet Days at various local venues in the Dallas area. We will post the dates and times of the Meet and Greet Days on this website. Meet and Greet Days are an opportunity for you to meet some of our animals. Unfortunately, not all of our animals make it to every Meet and Greet Day so please contact us at adoptions@earstexas.orgto check if your four-legged friend of choice will be available to meet you. (We do not do any onsite adoptions.)

More about this rescue

Education and Animal Rescue Society is an all volunteer, non-profit Texas corporation whose mission is to educate the public about issues concerning animal behavior and proper care for pets including an emphasis on vaccinations, spay and neutering, and nutrition. Further, EARS is committed to finding homes for unwanted animals that would otherwise perish in shelters. EARS keeps all of its animals in homes with volunteer foster families where the animals are loved and treated like a part of the family until the right permanent home is found.
