My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Fiona is the sweetest little cuddle bug you'll ever meet! A social butterfly, she loves meeting new people. Always up for going to new places, she happily jumps into the car, ready for any
adventure.

She engages nicely with other calmer and submissive dogs. High-energy dogs overwhelm her, however, so her foster is working on training and socialization; she will likely be fine with most dogs once she builds trust.

Fiona has been around children 8+ and engaged appropriately with them. She is still learning not to jump when excited, so a home without small children is best. At her foster's house she is a medium-energy couch potato who enjoys snuggling and covering you with puppy kisses. A true "Velcro dog Fiona loves being held and petted, prefers to stay in eyesight of you, and likes to lie at your feet. Fortunately, she does not rush the door or gate and obeys when told to back up.

Very food motivated, Fiona is a joy to train. She is house- and crate-trained, has picked up well on basic commands, and is working on leash skills. Fiona takes treats very gently (her absolute favorite is apple slices!). She loves being brushed, tolerates bath time well, and if you give her a lick mat, she will let you trim her nails with no problem.

Fiona is very happy playing with toys and hops around like a joyful bunny! She is incredibly adorable carrying little stuffed animals around in her mouth, chasing her tail, and crossing her paws like a little lady. After a good play session, you'll hear soft snores when she's deep in sleep.

Best of all, when you scratch her butt, she's in heaven and looks at you like you're the best person in the entire world! Who could ask for more?

HISTORY
Fiona was as a stray running in local traffic. When her finder (now foster parent) called out to her, she jumped straight into her arms and happily went into the backseat of the car.

HEALTH
Fiona is up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and spayed.

PHYSICAL
Fiona is tan with lots of white markings including on her nose, chest, and paws. She has floppy ears and black eyeliner.

Adoption Process

  • Fill out an adoption interest application HERE.

  • Our goal is finding lifelong, loving homes for our animals, so we try to find the best match between animal and adopter. We can help advise you on which animals to meet based on your situation.

  • You can meet some of our animals at our weekend adoption events, or we can arrange for a meeting in the foster home. If it’s a good match, the foster parent will come to visit your home in person. This is to make sure your home is safe and secure for a new companion animal.

  • Note: IAR makes every effort to please our adopters, but our first concern must be for the animal’s welfare. We reserve the right to deny any application.

More about this rescue

IAR started with one woman's big dreams, a bigger heart, and a very distinctive purple pickup truck that helped her rescue countless of unwanted, abused, and homeless Triangle pets. Originally founded in 1994, IAR earned an official 501(c)(3) status in 1995. We are governed by a Board of Directors, managed by elected officers, and introduced IAR’s first paid position, General Manager, in June 2021. This role will assist with elevating our collective compassion to new heights and strengthening IAR’s impact as a whole.

Our mission is to rescue and provide safe and responsible care for homeless, abandoned, and abused animals. We shall strive to help all animals in need through our service programs. We will serve our communities through promotion of spay/neuter for all companion animals, and the education of children and adults in humane care, respect and responsibility for animals on this earth.
