My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Captain Uhura Reporting for Duty!

Greetings, Earthlings! I’m Uhura, a 1-year-old, 21-pound Shepherd mix. I’ve been on quite the journey, originating from the streets of Ensenada, Mexico, where I was nursed back to health by a vet assistant from Los Adoptable. Now I’m ready to find my furever home and explore new galaxies with you!

I may be shy at first, but once I’ve had time to warm up, you’ll see how sweet and affectionate I can be. I love greeting my human with a wagging tail and gentle nudges for pets. With a little patience, I’ve come out of my shell a lot, especially during walks. Once I trust you, I’m all about cuddles and playtime! Speaking of play… I adore plush toys! I get along well with other pups and love to romp around. However, I prefer a slow introduction. I’m dog-friendly, but like to take my time before jumping in at warp-speed.

If you’re into exploring, I’m the pawfect companion. I can easily go on 3-4 mile walks. My energy level is moderate, but I can keep up with all of your outdoor adventures. The only thing that holds me back sometimes is stairs! I can totally handle them, but I might need a little encouragement at first because I get a bit nervous.

I’m out of this world when it comes to training - I’m bathroom, house, and leash trained. I do sometimes whimper when my humans leave but it doesn’t last long. I’m just learning that even if my crew isn’t around, I’ll be safe until they return.

My ideal furever home would be with someone who can be patient with me while I continue building confidence, and works from home or must have a resident dog to help with my companionship. I love my dog socialization time and throve off of dog interactions when I feel comfortable and confident around them! I haven’t met cats yet, but older kids might be a good fit if they are respectful of my space and boundaries when needed. Another dog to play with would be amazing, but I also love the company of my humans that can be with me most of the day and actively help me engage with doggy friends outside of the home for enrichment and to continue my socialization. Since I’m still a bit shy around new things, a home that isn’t too chaotic would help me thrive. Are you ready to embark on a lifelong mission with me? Beam me up to your home, and we’ll explore the galaxy together!

My adoption fee is $400 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
