My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Boomer is an active 4-year-old German Shorthair Pointer who is a great snuggler. He will
require daily exercise, mental stimulation, and social interaction to ensure his wellbeing. His
foster has a fenced in backyard which he loves so he can run free.

Boomer is crate trained and can last 6-8 hours at a time. He is in his crate when we are gone
and at night. When you get home he wants to be with you for assurance that you are not leaving
again. Boomer is fully house trained and uses a bell to signal he needs to go outdoors to go
potty. His foster family rewards him with a treat when he comes back in.

Boomer is very affectionate and loves to be around his people. He loves to snuggle on the
couch and be right next to you. Belly scratches are his favorite. He would do very well in a home
with another dog. He engages in appropriate play with other dogs and shares his toys. Outside
he loves to fetch a ball or relax in the sunshine. He also loves water, and a plastic durable kiddie
pool is a bonus. Thunder gets his attention, but would not say he fears storms. He does fine
with sirens, gun shots, vacuum, lawn mower and blow dryer.

There is some training needed for Boomer. He needs work on recall (come) and heel. He
occasionally thinks his paws belong on the counter, but a quick off reminds him that it is not
acceptable behavior. He knows sit, down, whoa (working on improvement), off and leave it.
Boomer is a fast learner and knows to go lay down when his humans are eating.

Boomer is a tough chewer and needs strong toys. Stuffed toys are a no. His foster mom would recommend
Kong rubber balls as he can destroy a tennis ball in minutes. If his leash is left where he can get
to it, he will carry it around reminding you to take him for a walk. So Cute! He loves the dog park
as he can run without a leash. His foster family has not had any bad experiences with other dogs.

This boy is such a delight. He wants to please and be with his people. He will be a great
addition to any family.

Additional adoption info

Adoptions are simple, we match the dog to the family and the family to the dog. Our Adoption process contains the following steps:
1. Complete our adoption application.
2. WGSPR will review your application and follow up with you via email or phone.
3. WGSPR will conduct a veterinary reference check and background check.
4. A WGSPR volunteer will contact you to set up a home visit.
5. WGSPR will determine and notify you if you are approved. If you are not approved, we will provide you with the reason we are not willing to allow you to adopt from us.
6. WGSPR will put you in contact with the foster family to further discuss the GSP that you are interested in.
If you, as the applicant would like to continue in the adoption process, a Meet and Greet is set up with the foster family. WGSPR does require you, as the potential adopter, to travel to the foster home for the meet and greet.
7. WGSPR foster families have the FINAL decision on the family that will adopt the GSP rescue.
NOTE: Considerations include application, home visit, meet and greet and overall best fit and safety considerations for the GSP rescue.
WGSPR matches you with the perfect GSP we have in rescue as your lifelong companion.
NOTE: The length of time the adoption approval process can vary and is dependent on the schedules and availability of our volunteers and the applicant(s). We ask that you please be patient through this process.
Considerations

1. WGSPR follows National GSP Breed Rescue Protocols.
2. WGSPR does not hold dogs. If you are interested in a particular GSP, you should arrange to meet that dog as soon as possible following approval.
3. WGSPR is unable to ship our GSPs to other states.
4. WGSPR cannot promise any of our GSPs are hunters.

Adoption Fees
Our adoption fees* are:

$375.00 GSPs under a year old

$300.00 adult GSP

$200.00 Seniors 8 years and older

We are unable to accept "payment plans," nor are we able to accept credit cards. If you write us a check, we ask that you please ensure you have sufficient funds!

*All GSP rescues come with all Rabies and DHLPP vaccinations, HW test and HW preventative, spay/neuter, micro chipping, flea and tick preventative and certified vet inspection.

Your adoption fee pays for the next GSP saved.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

Since all of our GSPs are in foster homes, we do require an approved adopter to travel to the foster home for the meet and greet.

WGSPR also participates in monthly shows and expos where you can meet some of our adoptable dogs. Please watch our website at https://www.wgspr.com/ or our Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/WGSPR-Wisconsin-German-Shorthaired-Pointer-Rescue-License-403447-141240896814/

Our rescued dogs are placed into foster homes to be loved, nurtured, trained and in some cases nursed back to health while we find the perfect permanent home and loving family for them.
