My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Zuko is an approximately 6-7 month old neutered male shepherd mix. He was picked up as a stray by animal control and sat at the shelter for 2 months with no adoption interest before a volunteer decided to take him home to foster until he could find a home.

Zuko loves EVERYONE - he doesn’t meet a stranger. He ignores cats and loves to play with dogs, but sometimes doesn’t listen well when other dogs tell him they are done playing. Some dogs do not enjoy this kind of attention - but Zuko doesn’t care and he just wants to love everybody!

He also loves playing with toys and will pester you to play tug with him. Zuko is a very energetic dude who loves to do all the things, all the time. At the end of the day, however, he loves nothing more than cuddling in the bed with you to go to sleep for the night.

Zuko is house-trained to a dog door and does well in a kennel, as long as he is taken outside frequently.  He enjoys going for walks and hikes and does well off-leash.

Zuko LOVES water! Baby pools, ponds, water bowls, the shower, the bathtub…you name it, he likes to be in it! He is such a happy boy!

If Zuko sounds like the perfect fit for you, please fill out an application here:  https://www.saveastray.org/forms/form?formid=3635

More about this rescue

Save a Stray strives to enrich the lives of pets in Mobile County through spay/neuter programs, providing vet care to shelter pets, and including shelter pets a risk youth groups.

Spay/neutering pets help to decrease the number of pets entering our shelter. By providing vet care to shelter pets healthier pets can be adopted by individuals or pulled by rescue groups. This program will also help decrease vetting expenses of rescue groups. Training programs with shelter pets and at risk youth increase the self esteem of the youth and make the pet more adoptable. A pet that knows a few basic commands is more likely to be adopted, become a family member, and remain in the home.
