My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
This pet was brought in by a community member on September 22, 2024.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Marcus, a mature canine with a gentle soul and a courageous heart. His shy demeanor may take some time to warm up to new faces, but once he does, he forms deep, meaningful bonds. Marcus hasn't had the chance to interact with other animals yet, so his behavior around them remains a mystery. He isn't house trained, but with patience and consistency, he can learn. He's best suited to a home with older children who can understand his quiet nature. Marcus may be shy, but he's also brave. He's faced challenges with resilience and strength, showing his potential to be a loyal companion. Adopting Marcus means giving him a chance to shine in his own unique way. It means opening your home and heart to a dog who has so much love to give, despite his initial shyness. Marcus deserves a loving home where he can truly come out of his shell and show his bravery. He is ready to start a new chapter with a loving family. Will that be with you?

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
