My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information.

Athena is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns. Athena in care has been highly dog reactive on walks, lunging, snarling and vocalizing at other dogs while on leash with staff members, making it difficult to walk her at times. Athena is highly social with staff members and affectionate during interactions. Medically, Athena has dental disease, alopecia (likely from allergies), and is overweight.

What my friends at ACC say about me:

I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.

I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let's brush up on some canine body language together!

I'm ready to learn! I need a patient person who has the time to work on training with me.

I would do best in a home with only adult humans.

A volunteer writes: Athena is neither spooky nor scary, and don't let the costume fool you - she's most certainly not a skeleton! In fact the vet team has diagnosed her as a bit overweight, but shhhh, we don't diet in the shelter!

Athena IS the most playful girl though, and we love to see the joy in her face when she gets a toy. Or when she simply notices the one she's just put down and pounces on it as if it's a brand new discovery. She shakes them, she parades them around proudly, she brings them right into your lap for a combo cuddle / play session.

When she's not playing, Athena cuddles with us. A mushy, happy face relaxing mid-scratchies - what could be better??

Athena was surrendered due to an eviction. While she doesn't care for other dogs, she enjoys car rides, walks, and games of fetch. She was described as a couch potato 🥔
