My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MURPHY
Age: 1 year
Sex: Male
Weight: 65 pounds
Breed: German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois

Murphy had a rough start in life. He was hit by a car, but he has healed and is ready to be welcomed into his forever home. He still has little fears to overcome, but we're working on them.

Murphy is a high-energy, motivated, and focused boy. He knows basic commands, loves agility training, and has started tactical training. He is able to climb a ladder, and he has scaled over a 6 foot stockade fence. Even with these abilities, he must have a fenced yard to meet his high energy and mental stimulation demands. For everyone’s safety, he must always be supervised when he's outside. He is able to hold his breath under water so if he puts his entire muzzle in his water bowl, it's just another one of his tricks.

He is an extremely intelligent pup, so he will need someone who has a background in training working class dogs. Also, someone who will lead with a heavy hand due to his breed and his young age, he will test boundaries. A well trained Belgian Shepherd can be a powerful deterrent and a valuable asset for home and family protection!

Murphy is not fond of our resident cats. He does have prey drive. He loves our resident Mastiff. He follows her lead in new situations. He loves roughhousing, so it's best if there are other dogs in the home, they are not small breeds. He'll thrive with other working-class dogs who are confident.

Murphy has proven he is his breed by protecting his pack. He has shown this ability most with my youngest daughter. She has taken charge of his obedience and agility training, and his love for her is undeniable.

Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping.

We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. An application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee adoption but does allow us to begin the review process.

Please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org for an application or additional details.

Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed.

Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant (adopter) for any reason.

More about this rescue

We are a small 501 C3 nonprofit rescue located in Elburn, Illinois. In 2014, Safe Haven Dog Rescue became its own non-profit. We are licensed by the Illinois Agriculture Department.

The majority of our dogs and puppies are pulled from Kill Pounds and Shelters in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Illinois. We also accept local medical cases as often as our finances will allow.

Please take a few moments to read the stories about the dogs and puppies we have available for adoption. We disclose everything we know about the dogs, sometimes we know a lot often we know only that they were strays, thrown away on the side of the road, in the woods, or found in abandoned houses.

While we don’t always know their past we are certain that their future is much brighter.

We hope that you and your family are part of the future…..
