My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Titan ACCT-A-177964 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Titan must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER, FOSTER, or ADOPTER by SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 2ND at 10AM. Should Titan's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.

Meet Titan! This sweet boy came to the shelter with another dog after their owner sadly passed away. They had been with a relative for a few days before being brought to the shelter. Since arriving, Titan has been a bit shut down, but his gentle nature shines through. He'll try to snuggle up on your lap or nuzzle his head under your arm, seeking comfort and warmth. Titan is looking for a loving home where he can feel safe and cherished again. Could you be the one to give him that? Titan is open to meeting other dogs and was stated to be good with pets by his previous caretaker, although any introductions to other animals should be taken slowly. Due to his length of stay at the shelter, Titan is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner, foster, or adopter.

BEHAVIOR:
Per Staff 10/27: Titan was easy to remove from kennel and walked well on leash. He was stiff at the beginning of his dog meet, but began to loosen up as time went on. Base had a lot more energy, which may have been a bit overwhelming for Titan. He would possibly do better with a lower energy dog or with slow introductions to a high energy dog. He is also pretty sick, so could act differently once he is feeling better.
Per Staff 10/25: Spotted one of the community cats while on walk in lot. Didn't fixate; non-reactive. Utterly perfect!

Per Volunteer 10/25: Titan was as sweet as ever and spent most of his time with me in my lap and nuzzled under my arm. He ran around a little bit before we went back inside and gave me some tail wags. He was also more comfortable in his kennel and allowed me to leash him right away. When I brought visitors over to him he came up to greet them and ate the treats dropped into his kennel.

Per Volunteer 10/15: Titan was so incredibly sweet. He is definitely nervous and scared in his kennel, but after a few minutes of tossing him treats he let me leash him easily. When we were outside he sniffed around the yard for a bit before he came over and leaned into me for pets. He was one of the most cuddly dogs I've ever interacted with and just wanted to spend as much time in my lap and nuzzled under my arm as possible. When I stood up to try to get some photos of him he was hunched with his tail tucked and clearly still scared, but as soon as I sat back down he was back smushed against me. It was a very windy day and the fabric covering the pergola was moving and making a lot of noise, but Titan sniffed at it and put his paws over the back of the bench a few times to look around and try to figure out the noise, even though he was scared he was trying to be brave! His dinner had been in his kennel for a while before we went out but when he returned he ate it all up. I checked on him before I left and he was snoozing peacefully. He is clearly so loving, loyal, and focused on the people that show him love, whoever adopts him is going to be so lucky.

Per Volunteer 10/13: Titan was very excited every time I walked by his kennel, wagging his tail and coming up to the front to see me. When I went to leash him, he was jumping up on the door so it took a bit to leash him because I didn't want to get his paw stuck. While walking he was amazing on leash! He doesn't pull at all and he was very engaged with me as his handler. Super affectionate to me for attention and took pets all over leaned into my body was very cuddly. Takes treats super gently. He was very engaged with me through our outing and followed my vocal cues! Another dog walked by and started to snarl and lunge at him through the fence and he reacted back, jumping and barking. But then a few other dogs walked by and he was totally fine. No issues walking back or going into kennel. Such a sweet and easy boy!

Per Staff 10/12: Took Titan out for a walk and had the same experience noted by the ACA in other memos. Found Titan to be very stressed (hunched, crouched, rushed and antsy when walking, tail tucked, ears back, lip-licking) but extremely physically affectionate - all he wanted was to find a quiet spot, snuggle onto my lap, and keep his head nuzzled under my arm.

Per Staff 10/12: An ACA let me know today that she was able to walk both Titan and Odin (at separate times) and they did amazing with her! She said that Titan got especially cuddly and kept nuzzling his head under arm for comfort and pets.

Per Staff 10/10: Super sweet boy, very shut down, looks to his handler for snuggles and reassurance. Allowed all handling, allowed vaccines. Did not microchip due to P's fearful behavior, did not want to stress him more.

10/10 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:
KNOWN HISTORY:
Owner surrender - couldn't afford, original owner died. Came in with Odin, appear bonded
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Titan and Odin were on opposite sides of kennel so the handler lowered the divider. Titan was sitting upright in the middle of the kennel with a tight body, tucked tail and raised hackles. He started growling and hard barking and bared teeth when the handler showed the leash. When she opened the door he positioned himself to charge, so the handler closed the door. Titan did not charge but stayed put, hard barking and growling. The handler was able to lasso him, but he leaped in the air and snapped at the leash. Once secured he very slowly came out with lots of space.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls moderately, very vigilant
HANDLING:
Titan was tense and unsure at first in the yard. He kept his distance and would flinch away from touch. After a few minutes to adjust, the handler sat on the bench, and TItan jumped up next to her and pushed his head under their arm, leaning in close for pets. Titan absolutely melted into the handler's lap and just soaked up all the love. He actually even got comfortable enough to fall asleep! Titan seems to warm up to his handler quicker than others. He was suspicious of me near him while the other handler pet him, but never escalated past some side eye at me. He allowed some body pets from a handler that wasn't holding his leash, but was unsure of the touch.
PLAY:
Too fearful
TOYS:
Too fearful

Per Titan's owner surrender notes, he is friendly, good with kids, and hyper. They said he is crate trained and housetrained, pulls on leash, and is good with strangers, children, and cats.

MEDICAL:
On 10/16, Titan was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" and started on medication.

During his intake exam on 10/10, Titan's eyes and nose were clear, his teeth were clean, his left ear was inflamed with a yeasty smell, and he had live fleas. He was bright, alert, and responsive, timid, and looked to the handler for support and reassurance.
