Charlie is a very sweet, loving, 2-3 year old Great-Pyrenees/Shepherd (best guess?) mix. His dad, Bryan, passed away this week in a tragic car accident. Bryan adopted Charlie last year and loved him SO much. Charlie is currently staying with a friend, but unfortunately none of us are in positions to keep him permanently. We are working hard to find him a home where he will be loved just as much as he was by Bryan.

Charlie wants to be friends with everyone! He is a big boy (~80-90 lbs we guess), and is still an adolescent pup, so he needs an owner who is comfortable and confident with handling a big dog. In our time knowing Charlie, he’s been friendly to all humans and dogs. Charlie lived with Bryan’s other dog Watson, a little dachshund (who we have already found a home for), so we know he is good with small dogs too. We haven’t seen him around cats. We also haven’t seen him off leash with small children, but given his exuberance, he’d probably fit in best in a home with older children who are used to big dogs – he tries to be gentle but is still learning to be aware of his own size!

Bryan put a lot of time and love into training Charlie with positive reinforcement, and he has been practicing sitting, lying down, and keeping all four paws on the floor when greeting new people. He’s doing great and will need an owner who will keep up this training with him. Charlie walks well on the leash using a Gentle Leader, and is practicing keeping his focus on his human when he sees other dogs. He loves to go for long walks and hikes! He also is a big snuggler and would love to curl up on the couch or bed with you if invited, but knows how to stay on the floor otherwise. He is crate trained and will quietly hang out in his crate with a chew while you’re out of the house and even when guests are over.

Charlie would be happy with a fenced yard to play in, but it doesn’t need to be too big as long as his new family likes to go for lots of walks! He is comfortable walking around downtown and Bryan loved to hang out with him at Press and Bull City Ciderworks.

We believe him to be up to date on all vaccines etc. and are working on getting his vet records and microchip info.

If you are interested in meeting Charlie, to adopt or even just foster while we continue to look for a permanent home, please reach out!

With appreciation,
~Bryan’s friends and family

Once approved, we encourage applicants to visit adoption events to meet potential dogs that could be a match.
Before you fill out the application:
1). We do not adopt to individuals living outside of North Carolina, South Carolina, or Virginia.

More about this rescue

Thank you for considering adopting a GSRA dog. We love that you are exploring rescuing a GSD. We firmly believe that the adoption of a dog is not one to be taken lightly. Because of this belief, our adoption process is what some would described as lengthy and can be emotional. If you are looking to take a dog home "tomorrow", unfortunately our organization is not for you.
