My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.

10/20 Still available!

10/7 Goldy was adopted from us earlier this year but is being returned. This is no one's fault- her adopter has really made the effort to make it work, but it is just not a good match. The biggest issue is that she is an obsessive barker and her adopter lives in a very busy area with a lot of coming and going, giving her many reasons to bark. They have tried everything to stop this behavior but have had no luck. Her teenage 'step brother' who spends weekends there is scary to her for whatever reason- he has never done anything to hurt her but she is terrified of him and will bark and growl all weekend long, starting when she hears his truck pull in on Fridays. She is so scared that when he approaches her, she soils herself. We believe this to be a remnant from her pre-rescue life where she wasn't treated very well. She is a dominant personality with other dogs. Her ideal home would be one where there is only one other dog or no other dogs, adult only home, in a quiet setting with a fenced yard. We know it's a big ask. We know how hard this will be and we feel completely defeated right now. But we have to try.

The positives- she is house trained. She LOVES to cuddle and wants to be always touching her person. She is playful and so cute. She enjoys sitting in a lap while her adopter watches TV. And finally, no one will ever sneak up on you with Goldy around because she will alert you long before you could ever know they are there. Goldy truly has many endearing qualities, but she needs the right home. She is only 32 lbs. and is about 1-1.5 years old. There is NO ADOPTION FEE for Goldy, but there is an application process. More about this rescue

Adopt-A-Stray was founded in Jan. 2010, by Kelley Prichard. Since then, it has grown to include a few wonderful volunteers who work very hard to help ensure that our pets are place in loving, forever homes. We are based in Alexander, AR, but we list all of our available pets in the northeast. We work with several different transporters to get our babies to their new homes in the northeast once they are adopted. The transporter we use most often Pack Leaders (www.plrdogtransport.com). All pets are given age appropriate vaccinations before they leave. Every pet is seen by our vet prior to transport. If you see a pet listed that interests you, please be sure to read the description thoroughly and inquire to the email address listed. Thank you for considering a rescue dog!
