My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sweet baby Kayla has arrived here at HSWC just in time for harvest festivities. She is hoping to find her forever home and people who will devote themselves to her happiness. Her 10 months of life has been spent with several family members and friends. She has had one litter of puppies. We are excited to turn things around for her and find her the perfect home:

💗💗💗💗💗
She is polite, well mannered and sits at her kennel door with pleading eyes. She is very timid.
She is the perfect compact size with some growing still to do. Currently 41 pounds.

💜💜💜💜💜
She is an energetic walker when she is with her buddy Zing. She has limited experience walking on leash. She doesn't want to go far when she is walking without Zing right now. She is improving each day.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Sweet easy personality.
😻outside cats are new to her and she may want to chase them out of curiosity.
More testing will determine how she interacts with inside cats once she settles in more.
🐶 she has lived with her boyfriend Zing. She enjoys being with him. She is not reactive to dogs right now. She may be overly enthusiastic Any smaller dogs.
She has been rather aloof with hoomans so far, we can tell this was a confusing transition for her.

🐾 She will benefit from basic obedience training to help her gain some confidence. She has been rather dependent on zing and her people. Giving her brain structure and focus of training will help her become independent.
Please come and give this sweet girl a chance at a better life. She is still a puppy and is very trainable. We look forward to watching her blossom with TLC the staff and volunteers will give her. Come and be a part of the team to help her heal (and heel😁) we know she will be someone's amazing best friend!

If someone is adopting a dog and has another dog at home, we also require a "meet and greet" for the dogs as well. More about this shelter

The Humane Society of Wicomico County was started in 1968 by a group of people who wanted to help improve the lives of animals. We have come a long way in our 40+ years! We have a staff dedicated to making sure the animals that come to our doors are loved and protected as they wait for their forever home. Not only are our animals vaccinated, wormed and given flea preventative, we can treat animals that come to us with mange, ringworm, heartworm and pay for animals to be seen by an outside vet should there be a need. We have an on-site spay/neuter clinic that not only is used for our animals but we also offer low cost spay/neuter for animals of the public. We provide emergency boarding for victims of domestic abuse, fire, and medical emergencies. We also have the capability to set up an off-site emergency shelter for people evacuated from their homes. In addition, we have an education program to help teach kids about being a responsible pet guardian. We work with a wide range of rescue groups and our animals have been transported from our mid-Atlantic area throughout the North Eastern United States. Our shelter is an open admission shelter and we will take in approximately 3500 animals this year. We do what we do because of our love for animals and our desire to make a difference in their lives every single day.
