Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Introducing Tonka! He and his dibling (dog sibling) came to ARM after living in a shelter in Ashland, WI and they weren't doing well in a shelter environment. Tonka is a 2 year old fixed male Aussie/Great Pyrenees mix. He is larger than your typical Aussie. Tonka is a sweet boy who needs slow intros and a home that will not rush things.
His foster has shared that it seems as though Tonka doesn't understand how big he is compared to smaller animals, as he is living with cats and dogs that are smaller than him. He is very playful and is learning how to play appropriately to ensure that his playmates don't get overwhelmed. He is a more confident dog that likes to be the leader, but does respect other dogs that assert their boundaries. He’s is a gentle giant once he learns to trust you. He’s very gentle when he wants to be petted and is very polite when taking treats.
He has not shown any food or toy aggression and has been good with the children who reside in the home. He’s likes to bark and protect his space/yard and will bark at cars when he's outside in the backyard.
The details:
Needs fence: Recommended at this time
Good with dogs: Yes
Good with cats: Yes - learning how to live with them. Best with dog savvy cats
Good with kids: So far
All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers. We need an approved application on file to set up a meeting with a dog you might be interested in. You can find our application at www.aussierescuemn.com. All dogs have an adoption fee of $400 plus MN sales tax. We pride ourselves on matches that are awesome for both the dog and your family. Aussie Rescue of MN is here for support, advice and as a safety net for our dogs for the rest of their lives.
