My name is Shadow!

Shadow arrived at the shelter on September 15, 2021. He was born in a outdoor colony of cats in Wasaga Beach. Shadow was the smallest of his siblings and it was noticed early on that Shadow was `different` from his brothers and sisters. He seemed to have trouble focusing his eyes on you and the third eyelid would randomly come across his eyes and his claws were always retracted.

Shadow has a condition called Myotonia Congenita (MC) which is a skeletal muscle channelopathy characterized by the inability of the muscle to relax following voluntary contraction. The affects of this condition are stiffness in all four limbs when he walks, and an inability to fully open his mouth with a decreased range of motion. On occasion Shadow would fall over when loud noises are presented, similar to `Fainting Goat Syndrome`. Shadow needs a ramp in order to get himself to high places such as a window sill or bed or couch. He is also more prone to Upper Respiratory infections.

Shadow had had a Neurological consultation and assessment from the Ontario Vet College Health Sciences Centre and the report is available for potential adopters to review. The recommended plan going forward for Shadow is to find a home with a suitable family where he can be cared for and kept safe. Shadow is a sweet and happy cat. He loves attention and affection and he enjoys playing with his toys. Shadow is easy to care for and not as much work as one would think.
