A beacon of hope shines bright as GRRAND and animal advocates across the commonwealth collaborate to help rescue animals trapped in a devastating hoarding situation on a rural County Kentucky farm. Advocates eagerly await justice for the abused animals and the swift rescue of those still suffering in inhumane conditions.
It's awful to think of the terrible lives and abuse they have been subjected to. A litter of 4 week old puppies were found on the property and all had to be treated at the Emergency Vet for Parvo to save their lives and sadly, one did not make it. We have extremely high vet expenses for these dogs and really need ongoing donations to pay for all their care and we are also in desperate need of foster homes for these dogs.
This is Maggie and she will need a home with an above ground securely fenced yard as she has never been on leash and remains very fearful of people and is considered a flight risk at this time. We have great news to pass on as Maggie is in a foster home, and this is what they have to say:
This girl has made so much progress and has really come a long way in a short amount of time. She needs to find her forever home. Could you be her forever family?
Here is what her foster mom has to say...
Maggie is doing well in my foster home, with my almost 2 year old golden retriever. She took a few days to decompress and then began to check out the house and yard. After that she was exploring all the rooms and walking up and down the steps like a champ. Maggie has been very curious and brave as she learns about a home, new sounds, smells, and other dogs in the neighboring yards. She loves plush toys, looking out the window, being outside, wrestling with my dog, running the fence with the neighbors’ dogs, and chewing on a good stick. Maggie doesn’t quite understand the difference between humans and dogs and tries to play with me like I’m a dog too. Maggie is still a puppy and is learning that while wresting with my golden, humans should not be included. She is very timid about meeting new people and looks to my dog for assurance that its ok before she will approach, so Maggie will do best in a home with another stable dog to help show her the ropes and help build her confidence. Maggie does not bark often but will alert to other dogs barking or a loud sound. Maggie is learning to accept love and be petted. She backs away about 50 % of the time and is learning to accepts treats from your hand. She would rather you toss them to her or put them in her crate. Maggie is fully housebroken and only had a few accidents in the first few days when we were leaning our communication signs. She is crate trained and uses it as her safe space. She walks in and out of it freely and at times sleeps in it with the door open. If she is scared, she will run to her crate and always needs access to it. She generally sleeps through the night and only whines to let you know she needs to go outside. She is a good eater but is not food or toy aggressive. Maggie does not whine or bark while in her crate in the car, although she was scared riding home and to the vet.
Maggie is super chill while I work in my home office and enjoys hanging out with my golden. She has taken over the office dog bed, plays with toys, chews on a Nylabone, entertains herself and is quite during conference calls.
Maggie is a sweet girl that takes a little time to warm up to you. She will make a fantastic companion for her forever family and her love is worth the wait.
