UPDATED BIO 1/21/2011 - Little Annie has been having a great time hanging with the dogs in West Palm Beach. She did not seem affected by the cold weather we had here recently, and did not seem to appreciate her new little doggie sweater her foster daddy got for her – I think she prefers being nekked! She enjoys her outings to the local dog park, where she surprised us all by jumping on the picnic table bench and crawling into the lap of one of the other dog owners. She is very friendly and likes to say hi to everybody at the park and get a little scratch behind her ears. She does have some favorite doggies at the park, one of them is a little 6 lb rambunctious Chihuahua that all the dogs there love to play with. However, she does not like the 14 lb puppy that jumps all over her and insists on trying to get her to play – can’t really blame her on that one though! She has met some of the larger dogs, and is always very friendly when she sees them and wants to say hi – she does not seem to have any fear there. Her favorite thing remains eating, so we really have to watch how much food she gets. She is not fussy at all, and is on a reduced calorie diet. She had gained a little of her weight back, and now we are hoping that she just stays steady, and does not gain anything else (don’t we all?), and if she does lose a pound or so, we count it an extra! The vet thinks Annie may have a collapsed trachea, which is very common in these little breeds, There really is nothing to be done about it. She does cough a little because of it, and the cold weather seems to have aggravated it, but she is currently taking some Tussigon which soothes her throat. We are sure once it warms up a little more, she won’t be coughing any more. Annie is a sweet mellow senior that deserves a home of her own. Could that home be yours?

UPDATED BIO 11/17/2010: Annie is a sweet senior Yorkie girl rescued from a high kill shelter where she would surely have been euthanized had UYR not stepped in to save her. She is sporting a new haircut to show off her weight loss, and she looks and feels fabulous! Annie does like to spend her days snoozing, but certainly appreciates a little outing around the block. She might be a senior, but she is still a terrier, and lets the cats know they are not always appreciated, especially if they start eating the food that is meant for her or the other dogs! She is a very sweet and easy dog and would be a great companion to a senior. She is submissive with people, and it appears that she may have been abused in her previous home, so sad. Despite that, she still is very friendly and outgoing and loves people. She does not need a lot of exercise, she is house trained, she does not bark a lot, she is outgoing and affectionate and she is as healthy as an older gal can get, although her ticker isn’t what it used to be, it’s still going strong. She gets along great with her foster brothers although sometimes she can get a little jealous if another pup is getting attention and she wants it – this lady still has some spunk left in her! Annie probably wouldn’t appreciate being in a house with rowdy youngsters – either furry or two-legged, but mellow ones would be just fine. Won’t you consider adding this sweet, easy going senior to your house?

UPDATED BIO 11/3/2010: Annie is an adorable senior Yorkie that weighs 10.5 # (updated weight, she's lost 1.5 lbs!). She saw a new vet who estimated her a little more that what was previously thought - we think Annie is closer to 12-13 years old. We did give her a dental where she lost some teeth, but she still has a couple left, and can chow down with the best of them! She was also spayed, and recovered just fine! Annie does like to sleep, but wakes up when the dogs are going for walks or we go into the kitchen. Annie is a very easy dog who is house trained, quiet, easy going. She deserves to spend her twilight years in a house as a well loved member of the family. Check back soon for new pics of this little girl!

UPDATED BIO 9/2/2010: Annie is an adorable senior Yorkie that was saved from certain euthanasia from a local high kill shelter. Initially, the shelter thought she was about 8 years old, but our vet suggested she was a bit older – closer to 10 or 11. Annie is a very sweet, well behaved girl, who does have some age-related problems. Her vet visit yielded both good news and some bad news. The good news is her blood work came back fairly normal – meaning all her organs are normal, but she does have some temporary issues related to being at the shelter, which we expect to clear up shortly with antibiotics. Annie did weigh in at over 12 pounds, and she is on a calorie reduced diet and no snacks, which she is doing fairly well at, although she is apparently used to getting an evening snack. An optimal weight for her is probably about 9 or 10 lbs. Her being overweight is also aggravating a heart problem she has. Her heart is enlarged, but we hope with light exercise and diet, we will be able to manage this issue, she is currently not prescribed any medication for that. She has an age related eye issue called Nuclear Sclerosis – but this does not affect her vision. She has loss of hearing, but she seems to know when we are in the kitchen or come down in the morning, so if she can’t hear at all, she can certainly smell and feel vibrations to make up for it! She also responds to hand signals – for example “come” and she goes out when the door is open and it is indicated she should go out. Her ears and her teeth have been neglected as well – but the vet was able to clean her ears of all the dirt in them – and there was a lot of dirt! To make sure her ears stay clean, she is having her ears flushed every day and eardrops are being applied. Sadly, no one ever cared enough about her to have her teeth cleaned and they are very rotten. She will need a dental, and will very likely lose a lot of her teeth, but there is no doubt that will not affect her ability to eat. Her eye was infected when she came into rescue, but with daily antibiotic eye cream, her eye is on the mend! In several weeks or so, after she is done with her ear and eye medication, she will be going into the doggie groomer to get the makeover she deserves, so check back for her full makeover!

ORIGINAL BIO 8/22/2010: Annie is an adorable 8 year old female Yorkie who was just saved from a local high kill shelter where her fate would surely have been euthanasia. She has only been in her foster home for less than 24 hours, but she is proving to be a very sweet, mellow, and loving dog who really likes to have her tummy rubbed! She seems to be completely housetrained, and has not had one accident in the house.

Annie also seems to be a quiet dog, and hasn’t barked at all – yet! She had a little walk this morning and enjoyed it, and walked very lady-like – no pulling on her part. She sounds like the perfect dog, huh? Well, since we know nobody's perfect, she does have some minor issues that need to be addressed. The first thing is..... how do I put this gently?... She is a Porkie Yorkie and needs to lose at least 2-3 pounds to bring her to a better weight of 9 or 10 lbs. She's also missing a few teeth and is in desperate need of a Doggie Makeover at the groomer's. :) She will be getting a full veterinarian exam and set of labwork on Monday, August 23rd, so stay tuned for the full report from the dogtor, and check back often for Annie’s updates and weight loss progress!
