Our adoption process can be found on our website here: www.mnpocketpetrescue.org/process
Estimated birth date: 1/29/2024
Personality: Aggressive (lunges, bites, etc), Curious, Energetic, Inquisitive, Mouthy (puts mouth on you but does not bite down, usually thinking your fingers are food).
Favorite treats: Mealworms!
Current Diet: Oxbow Essentials Adult Rat Food
Favorite toys and activities: Running on the wheel All The Time.
Potty trained: We're working on it!
This animal’s daily routine: Flexible. Meals twice a day with free roam time before the evening meal (so they all go back inside for dinner after!).
BFF: Zumbrota and Wanamingo are a bonded duo and must be adopted together.
Other species this pet has been exposed to and reaction: Has been in two cat homes without direct interaction, no fear of cat smells
Has this animal been exposed to children? What was their reaction? With a prior foster, but reaction unknown.
Health concerns: None
Behavioral concerns: Zumbrota is part of our trut training program for fear-based aggression. Due to this, we suggest she be adopted by a family with rat experience. Learn more about our trust training methods at https://www.mnpocketpetrescue.org/trust-training.
10/28: Continuing to handle, and squeaking when she is rough
Other notes from Zumbrota's foster: Zumbrota is coming out of her shell! Unfortunately she is becoming braver and also more territorial and more aggressive. At this time, I would say she should only be adopted by an experienced rat owner, and should only be introduced to other rats by someone with experience in introductions. She can be set off by the smell of unfamiliar rats, so I think a carrier-style intro would be necessary so she gets acclimated to a new scent quickly without room for her to chase (she becomes very singleminded). Right now, during free roam she will seek me out to dominance groom me, sometimes biting. I will be trying a deep clean of the room to remove potential scents from prior fosters, to see if a more neutral space has her feeling calmer.
