Thier Foster Parent Says: "Scamper is a calm, sweet, inquisitive little lady. She very much wants to be in the room where it happened, but prefers to watch from the comfort of her crate. She spends most of her day napping next to foster brother (and stealing as much of his bed as possible) and gazing out the window observing the world below. She is still getting used to walking on the leash, but loves to be outside and doesn't seem too affected by the sights/sounds of the city as long as she can smell everything along the way. Fun fact - she can walk on her back legs for a surprisingly long time when in pursuit of treats!"
Level of dog ownership experience needed:
BEGINNER: This means we predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale due to its breed/age combo. Potentially a good fit for someone who has relevant dog care experience (fostering, dog sitting) and is looking to adopt their first pup
Energy level
MEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)
Cuddle bug level:
Lower - still adjusting to her foster home. We can see her getting more cuddly as she has more time to settle into her home. LOVES to cuddle with other dogs.
Potty trained?
Yes - but will have transitional accidents as she gets used to a new home
Comfy with strangers?
Pretty much - Fine with meeting new people and will approach them but is much more interested in smelling all the city smells when on walks.
Comfortable with children? (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)
Yes - okay for a home with respectful kids aged 10 and up. Little kids could scare her.
Social with other dogs?
Yes - loves other dogs. In a foster home with another dog.
Respectful of other small animals? (cats, pocket pets, etc.)
Yes - should be okay in a home with a cat. We are able to cat test for approved adopters
Mouthy behavior:
Low – Little to no interest in chewing on stuff or putting things in its mouth that aren’t food. Doesn’t try to chew on hands, feet, etc. during playtime, doesn’t wreck your stuff — only chews on appropriate things like dog toys and bones.
Leash manners:

Okay in the city?
Yes - Seems unfazed by the sights and sounds, they may as well have been born here. She LOVES to smell absolutely everything.
Jumping to say hi?
Low – Doesn’t jump up on people or dogs. Always all four on the floor.
Separation anxiety?
Low - fine being left home alone
Crate trained?
Yes - okay with the crate
Medical Status:
Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake
How this dog ended up with Social Tees:
Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.
