MEATBALL NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name: Meatball Best Guess for Breed: Mastiff mix
Best Guess for Age: 4 years as of July 2024 Gender: Male
Approximate Weight: 74 lbs
Gets Along With: Other dogs! He is currently in foster with kids and cats.
Currently Living At: DC area foster home.
Special Adoption Considerations: Meatball is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.
We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!
Meatball is Looking For: First, let us tell you about Meatball's previous chapter. His owner passed away. The family came into town, cleared out the house, put Meatball outside, and left. Neighbors eventually noticed he was still there living under the porch, and called us.
Meatball has firmly closed that chapter and is eager for his next one, where he is once again be in a loving home. This big sweetie is looking forward to sniffy walks and exploring the world with his new humans. And just looking at them adoringly, knowing he is safe and under his own roof, knowing where he belongs. he promises loving, loyal companionship for all his days.
Is Meatball the steady presence you can see by your side? Are you the soft landing he deserves?
What My Foster Says About Me: Meatball is a wonderful foster-- very affectionate and has a strong desire for companionship, especially with children. He quickly accepted the boundaries of a grumpy resident dog and demonstrated eagerness to please, making him likely easy to train; he shows some basic commands and had minimal accidents in the house. While he is food motivated and enjoys gentle play, he's still a couch potato, happily lounging and engaging with toys rather than getting major zoomies.
Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog
