YANG NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name: Yang Best Guess for Breed: Shepherd and plott hound mix
Best Guess for Age: 3 years as of July 2024 Gender: Female
Approximate Weight: 46 lbs
Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with kids but she can be tested. We have tested Yang with some of the cats at the shelter, and she did not seem particularly interested in chasing or pouncing on the cat. While this is a positive sign that Yang could live with a cat, she has not done so to our knowledge. If you have cats in your home, we are happy to discuss with you how to best introduce a new pup to your pack!
Currently Living At: DC area foster home
Special Adoption Considerations: Yang is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.
We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!
Yang is Looking For: Her Yin! She landed in the shelter through no fault of her own, and can't wait to once again have her own humans. says she hasn't seen enough of the world yet.
She's eager for long sniffy walks, romps in parks, and all the adventures her new family can dream up. Trips to the beach, the mountains, Starbucks for pup cups - yes, please! Making lots of pup and people pals along the way is high on her wish list, as are quality kibble and and a cushy dog bed. But you know what she wants most of all? To know where she belongs, to know who her people are, and to be safe and loved. In exchange, she offers the stockpile of adoring gazes and little tail wags she has amassed - and loyal companionship for all her days.
What do you say? Is this sweet tiger-striped pup the one you see curled up on your lap? Trotting by your side?
What My Foster Says About Me:
Yang is settling in well. She is a very friendly girl and has made quick friends with everyone she has met in the neighborhood, both people and dogs. She shows no interest in our resident cat or the ones she meets in the neighborhood. She sleeps quietly during the night. Except for one accident early on, she has done all her business outside and learned quickly that if she goes as soon as she gets outside, she gets lots of treats. She enjoys playing with dogs in the dog park which brings out something of a goofy side to her. She is good in the car and is walking with a looser leash day by day. She is really warming up to us and showing more affection. She is a lovely girl and it is a joy to be around her.
Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog
