HOW TO ADOPT: This cat is participating in our Shelter Cat Getaway foster program, which gives cats a vacation from the shelter and lets them enjoy home life while they wait to be adopted. To schedule a time to meet this cat, please contact Mary at mmccarroll@arl-iowa.org or Carol at cgriglione@arl-iowa.org
---
- Has been spending time in one of our staff offices and has been a perfect office mate; someone who works from home or a retired person who can spend a lot of time with him would be ideal
- Is doing very well with a dog, and another FIV+ cat in his foster home, and may enjoy an animal friend in his new home
- Mellow, friendly and playful; enjoys attention and will flop over for belly rubs
- May take him a little time to warm up to new people, but once he knows you he loves being petted so much that he'll reach out and tap you when you move your hands away, letting you know that he wants more!
- Loves to rub all over your legs, which is adorable but may be a little tricky for people who are less steady on their feet
- Likes his food and has a lot to say - he's a really cool cat!
- Young, noisy or busy children may be too much for him, so he'll probably be happiest in a home with more mature family members
- We suspect this cat has allergies (more info at ARL)
This cat has tested positive for feline immunodeficiency virus. FIV attacks the immune system leaving a cat vulnerable to recurrent infections. There currently is no cure for FIV, but infected cats can live fairly normal lives for years. FIV is transmitted through deep bite wounds. Casual contact such as sharing food/water bowls, mutual grooming, etc. is unlikely to spread FIV. However, we recommend that this cat be an only cat or live with other FIV+ cats. If you have questions, please consult your regular veterinarian before adoption.
All adoptable cats and kittens are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and FVRCP as appropriate for their age)
