Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hooch is a big-boned, charming, people-loving 4 year old Dogue de Bordeaux (French Mastiff)/Cane Corso mix. This giant block-headed boy is quite the lover and likes to pretend that he's a lap dog, even though he's nearly 100lbs! With his many wrinkles and gorgeous rusty coat, he knows he's all that!
Hooch came to us with his brother, Bo, after their owner was evicted and had nowhere for them to go. Hooch has great manners in the house and mostly likes to sleep throughout the day. Being that handsome is hard work, you know! When he's not sleeping the day away, Hooch loves to cuddle up to his people and get as much attention as he can. He is great and chill when meeting other dogs for the first time and is very patient. He's a very loyal boy who likes to stick close to his people and make sure they're safe. Hooch is also OBSESSED with water, especially the water hose! He likes splashing around in the doggie pool and acting like a big gator with his mouth wide open in the water.
Hooch has been around kids his whole life and does remarkably well with them. He's a very gentle, watchful family guardian and takes his job very seriously. If he senses that something isn't right, he'll let you know right away by going on alert and barking sometimes. His bark is pretty loud since he's such a big boy, and it can sound scary at first but it's all for show. This guy is actually just a big squishy scaredy-cat! Hooch is a bit wary of strangers as his main mission is to keep his humans safe, but once he knows they’re friends he warms up quickly. He acts all tough and menacing, but he’d never hurt a fly!
Hooch is house trained, crate trained, and knows a few commands. He does have some reactivity/fear on the leash that is currently being worked on, but we have no doubt that he’ll improve quickly with the proper training. Hooch is also unfortunately heartworm positive and being treated for that. He is good with cats and other dogs, but he does not require a canine companion to live his happiest life. All he really wants is someone to nap with and love on him all day!
Hooch is located in Houston TX but can be transported to most US states for adoption.
