Hello world, my name is Acetylene! But my foster parents call me Cety for short. I am estimated to be between 2-3 years old.
I was found with all of my babies in the acetylene tank room at Oakland Community College this summer, and thankfully I was scooped up by my cat-crazy foster parents and taken out of the brutal heat! I was pretty badly emaciated, but I am well on my way to being the perfect healthy size.
I absolutely LOVE chin rubs and head scritches, and I am super vocal and affectionate! But my number one favorite thing in the entire world? FOOD. If you feed me, I will love you FOREVER.
I haven’t quite figured out the luxury of being a lap kitty yet, but I think I can learn with time. I am so very gentle with my humans and my babies - I have never used claws or teeth, even when I’ve been very scared!
I would love to go home with my daughter, Striker, but I would be okay with a slow introduction to another cat in the home, or by myself. I'm very interested in the other adult kitty in my home, and I try to play with her through the screen door all the time!
Regardless, I’ve got all the time in the word to adapt and become your best chatty buddy! Due to my rough life beforehand, I will need someone who understands that I am still learning how to live my best life as an indoor kitty. I am still a little food insecure (who could blame me?!), so my new family will need to be patient with me when it comes to feeding time.
If I am lucky enough to have any kitty siblings, we may need to formulate a plan so that I don’t become a furry beach ball from stealing their food. I am currently on a special diet, and I am doing better every day!
I will also need lots of patience with vet visits - I would do best being gently sedated due to my past trauma and fear, but that is as easy as a simple pill, and I take medication like a champ!
I really hope someone can give me a chance. My foster mom says I am the most wonderful, most beautiful girl, and my crispy crunchy meows are the best things ever ?
Cety is currently in a foster home. If you are interested in meeting her, please send a message here, or email adopt@ahsem.org.

AHSEM treats every adoption as "foster to adopt" This means that the first two weeks in which you have the cat is the "foster period." We do our best to ensure the right match for all involved and want to give the cat(s) time to decompress and adapt to their new environment. However, we realize sometimes things don't work out as expected. Therefore, during that two-week period, if something doesn’t work out you can bring the cat back. We will always take our cats back even after the "foster to adopt" period. We would hate to see them end up at a kill shelter, abandoned, or any other unsafe situation.
