Alexa (nicknamed Roo by her foster mom) is ready to find her forever family! Alexa has been adapting well to lots of changes the past month. She and her brother, Ziggy, went from strays to squatters (at a very nice, caring farm) to temporary foster care to their current residence in long-term foster homes. During this time, she has experienced what we assume to be many “firsts” for her - vet visits, walks on a leash, baths, car rides, and crating, just to name a few.
Alexa does great in the house with her foster mom and foster dog sibling. She knows to go potty outside, stays off any furniture that’s not for lounging on, and hasn’t chewed up anything that isn’t a toy. She does like to carry around shoes and towels if left out but will drop them when you ask her to. Alexa is working on leash manners, crate training, and fearless bathing (the tub is a scary place right now).
She is a very sweet and playful girl who is eager to learn. Some of the things Alexa has been enjoying in her foster home: training sessions with her foster sister, playing with toys, going on walks, and being outside. Alexa has not been cat or kid tested. She is shy/timid when meeting new people, which is understandable given her history as a stray. Once she gets comfortable with you, though, she will follow you everywhere. She likes knowing where her foster mom is at all times and cuddling up on the couch with her when it’s time to wind down for the day.
Alexa enjoys being busy (whether that be mental or physical stimulation), so an active home with a yard and another younger, playful dog would be best. She may also be a good candidate for dog sports with her energy level and eagerness to learn. Alexa would benefit from a home with Border Collie experience as she does possess many traits of this breed. She is still learning what it’s like to be a “dog” but has come so far already in such a short amount of time. Her forever family will need to be patient and willing to help her build confidence and be comfortable in her new home. This sweet girl has lots of potential and so much love to give! If you think you are the right family for her, fill out an application on our website.
Alexa is being fostered in the Ames, IA area.
