My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What my friends at ACC say about me:

My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet!

I have been known to shower my favorite people in love!

I love getting pets and - you guessed it - snuggles!

A volunteer writes: Sunny's guardian faced in an impossible decision, one that many New Yorkers have had to make during recent financial hardships. Keep his beloved dog, knowing he couldn't afford his medical care, or surrender him in the hopes that he received the care he so desperately needs. Sunny tore his ACL back in the spring, and his leg has been deteriorating ever since. Now a month or so later, and Sunny is hoping to get noticed to get help.

Sunny has quickly inched his way up to one of my favorite dogs. He's often seen resting serenely in his kennel, amongst the cacophony of barking dogs. He is patient waiting for his turn, and when he does finally get to go out, sweet and loving. He's always ready for a walk, and even though his back right leg dangles limply, never touching the ground, he has a joyful pep in his step. He will flop over for belly rubs, sit for treats even when we don't ask him to (it probably hurts) and is incredibly gentle in spite of the pain that he's likely in. Our vet staff has recommended amputation for his leg, but he will benefit from continued diagnostics outside of the shelter. His owner described him as friendly with all, including dogs and he's been loose and wiggly when meeting canine friends in the shelter. He knows the cues sit, come, paw and stay, always wants to cuddle his people and "loves every toy."
