My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Sumo, the 15-pound kitty who’s as mellow as he is lovable. While he may not be a wrestler, Sumo sure knows how to throw his weight into a good nap. Independent and laid-back, this big guy loves nothing more than lounging around like a professional bed tester—his dream job, if he had one. Don’t let his relaxed demeanor fool you, though; Sumo’s got a playful side, too, and enjoys chasing the laser and batting around toys, when he's in the mood.

When he wants a little extra love, Sumo uses his super cute silent meow, a gentle nudge for some well-deserved pets. He’s a happy cat, always content with life’s simple pleasures—soft beds, a bit of playtime, and lots of affection. Sumo is just a great all-around kitty, and would do best in a calm home with other furry friends.
Sumo was born 5/1/22.

If you live in Chicago and are interested in learning more about Sumo, please contact Toni McNaughton at tonimcn@rcn.com and Lisa Ward at catladychicago@yahoo.com. Please tell us a bit about your situation, what you are looking for, the composition of your current household (the other humans and/or pets who already live there). Inquires with these questions answered are responded to promptly.

We are always in need of foster homes. If you are not able to adopt, but are interested in fostering or know someone who might be, we would love to hear from you! Please contact Toni McNaughton at tonimcn@rcn.com or Lisa Ward at catladychicago@yahoo.com to learn more. Photos by Brenda Stewart.

Additional adoption info

The process for adopting a cat involves a couple of steps.

Step 1 Gather information
We gather information about the potential adopter's situation, what they are looking for, their current household and pets, etc.

Step 2 Cat “Interviews”
Next, we have the potential adopter meet the available kitties, by putting them directly in touch with the appropriate foster parent(s) to coordinate a day and time for a visit.

Step 3 Adoption application
Once the potential adopter has met the kitties, if they decide they want to do an adoption, they fill out our adoption application, which we then process. It takes a couple of days to process the application. Once the application has been processed and approved, the kitties are ready to go home.

Step 4 After the adoption
Once a person has adopted a cat, Feline Friends Chicago continues to stay in touch with the adopter to ensure a smooth transition for both the person and the cat. We remain available for questions and advice.

All of our kitties have been combo-tested for FIV/Feline Leukemia, spayed or neutered, vaccinated for distemper, microchipped, and dewormed. The adoption fee helps to offset the costs we incur to do all of these things.

Please keep in mind, we are a very small volunteer group and not set up to do out of state or long distance adoptions. If you live out of the Chicago area, we encourage you to look at your local shelters where there are wonderful animals waiting for homes.

Go meet their pets

All cats in Feline Friends Chicago live in foster homes. As part of the adoption process, we have the potential adopter meet the available kitties by putting them directly in touch with the appropriate foster parent(s) to coordinate a day and time for a visit.

More about this rescue

Feline Friends Chicago is a, no kill, cat rescue organization serving Chicago. We do not have a physical site – we are completely foster-based. To meet any of our cats in the Feline Friends Chicago program, we arrange meetings between foster homes and potential adopters. Feline Friends is staffed 100% by volunteers, and is funded entirely by private donations. Feline Friends is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and all donations are tax deductible.

Our mission statement is: “to help alleviate the suffering of homeless pets in Chicago by rescuing, spaying/neutering, and responsibly placing as many animals as possible in permanent homes.

Feline Friends Chicago is a 100% foster-based program. The more foster homes we have, the more cats we can rescue. We are continually in need of foster homes, and would love to hear from you if you could provide a foster home. Contact us at felinefriendsorg@gmail.com. We respond to all emails promptly. If you have not received a reply within 24 hours, please check your spam folder.
