My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Louie is handsome tabby gentleman who was sadly surrendered by his owner due to not getting along with her other cat. Now, this sweet guy is looking for his furrever home! His foster mom says he'll take about week to settle in to a new space, but once he does, he'll enjoy rubbing up on your legs to greet you and loves sharing the couch or bed with you.

Louie is still quite playful and he especially loves string and ball toys - he's also a big fan of chin scritches and any Temptations treat you have to offer. Louie's got a bit of cattitude, so he would do best in a home without other cats and with adults only (teens who understand kitty boundaries are okay!). He currently takes liver supplements and is doing very well on a weight management diet that's got him well on his way to a perfect, healthy weight! Louie would be a great first cat for a patient adopter who has a quiet home and is looking for a sweet, low-maintenance companion.

Louie is about 6 years old; he is neutered, tested fiv-/felv-, is up to date on vaccines and has been treated for parasites. We recommend calming meds for vet visits, as he can become anxious and lash out in a vet setting.

This cat would prefer to be adopted alone and be the only cat in the home.

This is a courtesy listing, meaning the cat(s) are being offered for adoption by a rescuer, rescue group, or individual unaffiliated with the Brooklyn Cat Cafe or Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition. As BBAWC has not evaluated the animal(s) we therefore cannot provide information on health or temperament. After we receive an application, we will connect you with the current caretaker of this cat.

More about this rescue

Our rescue group was formed in December 2007, but all our Board Members have had extensive experience rescuing and working with abandoned animals. We often work with other rescue organizations to find appropriate and safe foster and adoptive homes for our pet clients. We regularly go to areas with abandoned animals and collect them. The animals are taken to a licensed veterinarian examined, treated and spayed or neutered. Every effort is made to work with the animal and our foster and adoptive families to find a suitable forever home.

For those animals who are truly wild and feral, we release the animal in a safe and secure location after it has recovered from its medical treatment. We also work with certified wildlife rehabilitators to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. Our organization is focused on improving the welfare of the abandoned animals in need of help in Brooklyn. In furthering that goal, our resources are focused on the animals.

Aside from a few minimal overhead costs such as our website and phone services, our entire budget is spent on animal care such as medical and food costs.
