A REAL PEOPLE DOG: Approx. 6 years old / Approx. 26 lbs.
Hi, my name’s Irwin and I came to Mostly Mutts from animal control. Since joining the MM family, I’ve been soaking up all the love from the volunteers who come to care for me. I hear that I’m now ready to find my new family, and I am so excited for that day. Hopefully it will be soon! I’m currently in the prison/foster training program off site and learning a lot! Please inquire at 770-272-6888 to find out when I'm available to meet.
• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I recently met dogs at Mostly Mutts, and I was a little shy, but didn’t show any aggression and played a little after warming up for a few minutes. I also did well with the dog in a temp. foster home. I was gentle and friendly with her, though we didn’t play together. We did share my temp. foster dad’s lap. If you have a friendly dog at home already, let’s meet. / I met cats recently in two different temp. foster homes and I was respectful and co-existed with them, simply sniffing them and going on my way. I even shared my foster’s bed with one of them. I also did not react to the one I saw on my walk, so if you have a dog-friendly cat, let’s meet and see if we can be friends. / There was a 13- and 18-year-old in my temp. foster home and I was friendly and gentle with them and enjoyed when they pet me. So, if you have kids, let’s meet and best no toddlers that I may bump over.
• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: The volunteers describe me as friendly, calm, gentle, sweet, and a charmer as well as the sweetest boy who will melt your heart. I’m looking for a family that has a stay or work from home family member as my favorite thing in life is to sit by my people or even on their lap. I can be a bit of a couch potato, with a calm/low energy level when we are inside hanging out together. I had little spurts of play but was mostly chill in the home. They reported that I was an all-around sweetie! They also said that I didn’t bark much (except when in that dreaded crate), but I did whine when my foster was walking away from me or when left inside by myself. In the prison/foster training program, I only whine when I am excited to go on my walks and for about 20 minutes when first crated. I really seem to love everyone I’ve met so far and I’m sure I’ll love my new family too! / In my temp. foster home my energy level was approx. 3-5. At the shelter it’s more like 4-6.
• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I am a student in the Mostly Mutts University training program where so far, I have learned the ‘sit’ and ‘come’ commands as well as accept friendly strangers without jumping and utilize proper door etiquette. I also walk nicely on a leash. I’m so close on all my other commands, just working on my consistency with showing them to all the trainers. I expect to be an MMU grad very soon! / In the prison/foster training program, I whine for about 20 minutes when first crated. I have been well-behaved out of my crate, but if you need me to use a crate, please continue to encourage me with positive reinforcement. The MM trainers can help you with this. / I had excellent potty manners in the prison/foster training program. I also did well in two temp. foster homes I visited. I’d go and stand close to the door to let them know I needed to go potty, and I didn’t have any accidents the 2 days I was in each home.
• LIKES/DISLIKES: Most of all, I love being by my humans, cuddling up nice and close. I met some strangers in my temp. foster home and loved on them like I knew them already. I also like toys and playing fetch as well as chasing critters in the yard. Walks are also on my likes list. / Besides my hate for the crate, I also don’t really like being left alone much. Car rides are not my favorite right now, but maybe I just need more experience going on fun adventures with you. I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, and training.
• MEDICAL: I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. I’m getting medicated baths for a little while to help with some discomfort on my front feet. These can easily be done in my new home. I took Apoquel for a short time to help alleviate the itchiness in my paws, but I seem to be doing much better now.
I’m looking for a wonderful family with a stay or work from home family member who will be patient with me at first – giving me a little time to settle in and feel comfortable. My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.
