We were alerted to a momma in need of a way out of the outdoor strife she’d been surviving with her little family, and invited her to stay with us while we helped her recover from her treacherous past. Time in our Feline Behavior & Long-Term Care Home gave Velveteen the setting she needed to work out what part humans can take in adding to her life. Aided by other empathetic cat companions, Velveteen has summoned up her burgeoning courage to venture into playgroups, whimsically watching with her wondering eyes how she’ll fit into this life indoors. An experienced home with older children, and a cat to guide her in her first real home will set reasonable expectations for her as she continues to grow into an appreciation for the new safer lifestyle she’s learning to love.

When you come down to NSALA an associate will help you figure out what kind of animal will do best in your situation. At that point they will take out the animals you are interested in so that you may get to know them. You will have plenty of time to play and interact with your new friend in our family friendly areas designated for that purpose. When you decide you want to adopt, an associate will help you fill out an application.

Our adoption fees are as follows:
Puppies (up to 6 months) $350
Adult Dogs (over 6 months) $100
Puppy Mill Rescues $250
Small Breed & Pure Breeds (over 6 months) $250
Kittens (up to 6 months) $100
Double Kittens $150
Adult Cats (over 6 months) $50
Double Adult Cats $75

Where applicable, a $50 Spay/Neuter deposit is required for kittens, $75 for puppies.

Our Adoption Center, is open every Thursday-Sunday 12pm-8pm. On average, our shelter is home to 350 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens. Behind the scenes, the Adoption Center contains a nursery area, medical examination room and a grooming area where new admissions are health checked, vaccinated, bathed and groomed.

Visitors are reminded that adoption is a lifelong commitment. After selecting a pet, each potential adopter is thoroughly screened, ensuring each adopter recognizes the life-changing commitment a new pet can be. To date, over 1,000,000 pet owners have met our high standards and adopted a pet from North Shore Animal League America.
