My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chai
Chai is a female white and grey tiger DSH
DOB: July of 2023
Adoption fee: $75.00

I had a pretty rough start to life, but now I am getting all the love and food I want! I was shy when I first came in, but now I am letting all of my personality out to shine. I am a very sweet girl; I enjoy pets and can even tolerate being held for a few minutes. I will follow you around just because I am curious about what is going on and I do like to sneak into the cupboards. I love to observe and watch nature outside, I even watch the people outside the door. I am not much of a playful cat, I might decide I like to play in my new home, but I am not sure yet. I mostly like to take long naps in big comfy beds! I really enjoy attention and sometimes I am vocal when looking for it. I like to be goofy sometimes, anything to get your attention! I can be independent as well... that is my nap time!

I would do best in a home with older children 10+ pending observations and if they respect my boundaries. I do not mind being held for a short period of time, but I will let you know when I have had enough. I may do okay in a home with a cat friendly dog pending a slow and proper introduction. I would do okay as a single cat, but I would also do okay in a home with another cat not looking for a playmate. I can coexist in a home with other cats.

I really am a sweet, easy-going girl just looking for my forever home! Could that be you? If you are interested in being my adopter, please visit my shelter's website and complete the adoption application that is available there! HSSCM.org you can find the applications under the "adoptions" tab.

More about this shelter

About Us:
We are the area's nonprofit advocate, sanctuary and source for companion animals since 1887.

Our Mission:
-to protect animals from suffering and cruelty
-to provide safe and responsible care for unwanted or abused companion animals
-to enhance the lives of animals and people through education, adoption, and foster care.

We believe in second chances at the Humane Society of South Central Michigan. Our service area includes all of Calhoun County and parts of Kalamazoo, Barry and Branch counties. We keep animals as long as it takes to find a good home for adoption once the animal passes temperament testing and is checked for good health. The Watkins Road shelter cares for up to 100 animals a day, and adopts out more than 500 animals a year. Countless area residents use the Society’s animal care, adoption and education programs each year. The Humane Society is overseen by a board of directors. We do not receive any government or tax dollars, or national humane organization funding. Our services are made possible by people in our community who care about homeless cats and dogs - people like you!

The Humane Society of South Central Michigan values:
-The ethical and humane treatment of animals
-Its role as a shelter for animals that suffer from pain, fear, and neglect
-Community accountability for the welfare of its animals
-Responsible stewardship of our resources
-Community involvement to achieve our goals
-Education about responsible pet ownership
-The joy of sharing a life with animal companions
