My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Julius is a survivor! He came in with severe head trauma, but with the loving care and patience of our medical team, he continues to recover well. He loves head scratches and will make biscuits to show his approval. Actually, he`s an expert biscuit maker. He is ready for a bake-off challenge! Julius will work through the night making sure the dough is ready for the oven in the morning. Julius seems to really like other cats, so he would probably do well in a home with some feline friends. He may need a patient and cat-savvy adopter willing to give him a little time to get to know his new home and not rush him thorugh the transition. Julius is a soft, lovable boy that has been through a lot. We`d love to see him in a foster or forever home to continue his journey of healing.

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please note, Adoption and Pet Resource Center lines close at 6:00 p.m. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.
