My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lexi is a dignified and lovable as can be senior citizen that is in need of a new home. Her lifelong dad has medical conditions that make it impossible for him to care for Lexi any longer. A compassionate family member has stepped up to introduce us to Lexi..and this gorgeous purebred Poodle is absolutely irresistible.

Lexi's family member has described Lexi in the following way....Sweet Lexi is an active 12 year old who loves her people first and foremost followed by her love of walks and time outside. She is house trained and uses a doggie door on her own.

Lexi is a cuddly and loving snugglebug! She's a low maintenance girl who is SO sweet! She just wants to love and be loved. Lexi is a perfect choice for anyone who is searching for a best friend to provide quiet companionship and pure love.

Lexi is very friendly with people, kids, and other dogs both at home and on walks. She prefers smaller dogs who will be kind and gentle playmates for her. This independent girl would also do very well on her own in a home if her family is present and loves spending their time with a lovable pup. Lexi also has always done well with cats and seems to enjoy all the kitties she's ever met.

I must admit that Lexi does beg for food because my dad tended to give her yummy people food. I've worked with her on this and she is so much better!. She will initially test to see if you will oblige her food desire, but learns not to beg after a few corrections. I tend to substitute the dog-unhealthy people food with frozen green beans as treats...far fewer calories and she tends to accept and then love them! It's so important she doesn't get this people food in order for her to live a long and healthy life.

This gorgeous little girl has not one ounce of aggression in her entire body! The truth be said..she's as close to perfect as a dog can be. She's friendly to everyone, happy and joyful, loves to cuddle and get petted, adores her walks and is great on them, perfect for bath and groom time and loves to sun herself when she feels comfortable where she is. She is overall an exceptional companion who brought so much light to my dad's later years.

Lexi, at just about 12ish years old and 11 lbs would be that perfect companion for anyone who is searching for a very sweet and well-behaved lap dog who doesn't require lots of exercise. She will be by your side to hug and love on...these are always the most important things to Lexi! She's a small pup and so portable and well-behaved that she can be a full-time best friend accompanying her guardians everywhere a sweet and very lovable family dog is welcome.

Lexi has been fully vetted, vaccinated and spayed to be in line with Farfel's commitment to adopting out only healthy dogs that won't contribute to the overpopulation crisis in the canine world. She was pronounced completely healthy and active without any discernible health issues.

Lexi may be a bit shy initially as rehoming is challenging for any dog...but with love and nurturing, she will absolutely shine. We envision Lexi with either retirees (she would be overjoyed with time spent and being at the center of a loving family) or a younger family that works from a home-based office or just enjoys spending their time at home with a mellow fuzzy best friend.

For those family members who enjoy walks and time outside in Colorado neighborhoods or on trails, Lexi would love to share the experience. She always enjoyed her time outside right by the side of her family as they tended their gardens went on walks. She breathes in the air...so happy to be outside in the sunshine and cool breeze. And then, maybe Lexi's favorite part...it's time to end the day with hugs, belly rubs and a warm spot on the bed close beside her beloved family members.

As a purebred Poodle, Lexi is a non-shedding dog (and considered to be one of the most hypoallergenic breeds available today). Any family interested in adopting Lexi will need to commit to coat care. She will require periodic grooming (approximately every 8 - 10 weeks) and great nutrition (a daily salmon oil supplement with premium food is important for coat care and longevity) to keep her hair cottony- soft, healthy and matt-free.

Lexi is being fostered in the Denver area. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If you're interested in this sweet, cuddly and lovable best friend, please fill out our application completely and submit.

**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Lexi please be sure to fill out our adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving girl. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit an adoption application. Thanks so much for choosing rescue.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.

An Adoption Application and an Adoption Contract must be completed before any dog can begin their one week foster. Our average adoption fee is $695. This amount serves to cover vetting, spay/neuter, all vaccinations, temperament testing, transport, a microchip, harness, food, and treats.
Our dogs come from Texas, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and rural Colorado.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

Pets are transported from the southern states every week. Almost 100% of the time, the dogs are spoken for as a result of adoption applications that can be referenced under Adoption at farfelsrescue.com. We study the applications. If the app indicates there is a match, followed up by a home visit and reference checks, the process moves to the next step. The adopter is committing to a one week foster (of course the dog can be returned at any time prior), and can then choose to finalize the adoption.

More about this rescue

We own a pet boutique named Farfel's Farm & Rescue on Pearl Street in Boulder, Colorado. We have had the good fortune to find our niche in the Boulder community and experience success. We felt it very important to "pay it forward" in gratitude. We couldn't think of a better endeavor than to save dogs who were out of time in the southern states, yet had been identified with great temperaments. We dedicate our efforts to their good health and ultimate wonderful, permanent homes.
