My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi I'm Boomer,

If you're looking for a dog that enjoys living life at a slower pace and stopping to smell the roses, you may have found your perfect match. I was found by a manager of a Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant where I wandered into the kitchen through an open back door. The cooks started feeding me, the manager called Basset Buddies, and the rest is history. I'm now proving to be about the easiest foster that my foster parents have ever had (they've had about 70, so it's kind of a big deal). I'm a big boy coming in at around 70 pounds. I've got a funny little mole right on the top of my snout that people often mistake for a fly. I'll follow you around the house to show my loyalty and get some exercise. I'll sleep wherever you put me at night, whether it's a crate or a bed. When I sleep, I don't wake up until you get up. So no early morning wake up calls from this hound right here. I love to watch my humans cook, and I sometimes bark to let them know if they need to stir faster or take something out of the oven. I'm a PhD in potty training as I've never had an accident. When you let me out, there is no lingering around --- I get my business done quickly, and then like to stroll through the garden to smell the flowers and watch the birds. When I bark, I have a deep, muted bark that they say is pleasant and not high pitched or loud and annoying like the other dogs in my house. And speaking of dogs, I get along great with my three siblings and am just fine allowing them to be alpha. I'm estimated to be around 8 years old, so I'm definitely past the annoying chewing puppy years but still have some good years ahead of me. Ask for Boomer if I sound like a dog you would like to spoil for the rest of my life.

Additional adoption info

]The Adoption Process:

1. First, please complete our adoption application.

2. Upon receipt of your application, we will call your vet(s) to ensure your current pets are up-to-date on annual vaccines, have been spayed/neutered, and are on heartworm preventative. We will also contact your landlord, if applicable.

3. Once we've confirmed vet records, our volunteers will contact you for a phone interview and home visit.

4. After approval, our adoption coordinator will contact you to discuss the available Bassets that best match your lifestyle and are most suitable for your home. Not every Basset will be the right one. Our foster families assess each Basset for particular traits and dislikes.

Before adoption, each Basset will be spayed/neutered and will receive all necessary vaccinations, treatments (e.g., heartworm, dental, deworming, etc.), and medications.

More about this rescue

Established in 2007, Basset Buddies Rescue of Texas is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization
staffed solely by volunteers devoted to the rescue of unwanted, abused, and homeless
Bassets in Houston, TX, and surrounding regions.

RESCUE. We take in Bassets from shelters or directly from owners who are
unable or unwilling to care for them. We do not discriminate based solely on the
dog's age, condition, or medical needs.

REHABILITATE. Before adoption, we place the Bassets in loving foster homes where
they are evaluated for temperament and behavior. We also update all vaccinations,
insert microchips, address all medical conditions, and spay/neuter all unaltered hounds. Most of our Bassets need heartworm treatment, as well. Despite the time and expense, we are committed to providing the most appropriate and humane treatment for every Basset in our care.

REHOME. We work hard to place each Basset with the right forever family. After you complete an application, we will call your vet to ensure all past and present pets are current on preventatives and vaccinations, chat with you via phone, and conduct a home visit—all to match you with the best hound for your home and lifestyle.

We're very proud of the work we do for people and dogs in Houston and surrounding areas.
