My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

WAITLISTED - STILL ACCEPTING INTEREST

Introducing Hank!

Outgoing Playful Snuggly Energetic

Hi, I’m Hank! I’m an outgoing and playful Great Dane who loves life and toys. I’m full of energy, and I absolutely love following my humans around—wherever you go, I want to be right there with you! I’m super sociable and enjoy meeting new people, even if I need a quick moment to warm up. Once I’m comfortable, I can’t get enough attention and affection!

I did well meeting my foster canine sibling, but I should still have slow and structured introductions if there is another dog in my forever home. I am not always aware of how big I am, so my forever family should keep an eye on me when I’m playing with smaller dogs. As for children, I haven’t had much experience with them, so a home with no kids or older children (13+) would be the best fit for me due to my size and energy. I also haven’t spent much time around cats, so if my new home has any feline friends, I’ll need gradual introductions to make sure we get along.

Some of my favorite things include playing with big toys, frisbees, and stuffed animals. I’m always up for a good game of fetch or tug-of-war! When I’m not playing, I love exploring the yard or snuggling with my people. I’m not a fan of being crated, though, and I prefer if my ears are left alone—thank you very much!

I already know quite a few commands like "stop," "wait," "leave it," "come," and "lay down." But since I’m young and full of energy, I’ll need my forever family to help me continue my training to make sure I keep up with those skills. I’m also working on improving my leash manners, and with my smarts and enthusiasm, I know I can get better with the right guidance. I do have a bit of a habit of counter-surfing, so my new family will need to keep surfaces clear of any tempting goodies!

As for my health, I’m in excellent shape with no concerns, so I’m ready to take on the world with my new family.

My perfect forever home will have a physical fence and a medium-to-large yard where I can run, play, and explore as much as I want. I need plenty of space to stretch my legs and burn off some of my energy. My future family will need to be dedicated to continuing my training, especially with basic commands and leash manners. Since I’m not a fan of crates, I’ll need a home where I can roam freely, and my family should keep counters clear of any snacks or items I might want to "investigate."

If you think I’d be a great fit for your family, I’d love to meet you! Let’s have some fun and make great memories together!

Hank is a big, lovable goofball with an energetic spirit and a heart full of love. He’s ready to bring joy, snuggles, and plenty of fun to his forever family! If you believe Hank will be a perfect fit for your family, please reach out to us by following one of the options below.

More about this rescue

Upper Midwest Great Dane Rescue was started in 2008 by a group of Dane lovers who desire to help Danes in need. The rescue is made up of all volunteers who lovingly give of their time and money to help these wonderful dogs. Volunteers include people from every walk of life, all with one thing in common, love of Great Danes.

Each animal coming to the rescue is temperament tested, given a physical, vaccinated, wormed, checked for heartworm and tick borne illnesses and treated as needed. All dogs are sterilized before being re homed. The dog is then placed in a foster home to wait for someone to love it forever.
