My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Zeke is a 4-year-old, 60-pound bundle of affection who's ready to capture your heart. His greatest joy comes from being close to his humans, and he seamlessly balances moments of exuberant play with sweet, cuddly downtime.

**Personality & Behavior**

- Affectionate & Cuddly:
Loves nothing more than being near his people. His favorite spot is on the couch with his head nestled in your lap.
- Playful & Energetic:
He enjoys running, jumping, and playing, which means he’ll need a home that can provide regular exercise and activities.
- Smart & Trainable:
Zeke is house and crate trained, responds well to commands like “sit” and “down,” and is highly motivated by treats. While he’s well-behaved, he can get overly excited and jump (especially on visitors), so ongoing guidance is needed to reinforce his manners.

**Social Skills**

- Good with Dogs & People:
Zeke gets along so well with other dogs and is friendly with people. We are unsure how he behaves around cats as we’ve never had him around any.
- Kid-Friendly:
While Zeke is likely good with kids, due to his size and energy level, a home with children 10 years old and up is recommended to avoid accidental knock-overs during play.

**Living Preferences**

- Active Household:
Zeke would thrive in a home with another dog to play with, a fenced yard for him to run and explore (not required), and someone who can take him on regular long walks & possibly even runs and hikes.
- Not Suitable for Apartments: Due to his energetic nature and tendency to bark when people or dogs walk by, Zeke would do best in a home with space to move around & use his voice rather than an apartment.

**Favorite Activities**

- Chew Toys:
Zeke has a particular love for chew toys.
- Car Rides & Adventures:
He’s enthusiastic about car rides and loves to explore, making him a great companion for outings.
- Doggy Daycare: Zeke enjoys spending time at doggy daycare or a dog park, where he can socialize and burn off energy.

**Health & Care**

- Non-Food Aggressive:
He is not aggressive with his food toward humans or other dogs.
- Sleep Routine:
Zeke sleeps in his kennel at night and when home alone to prevent any mischief.
- Slow Feeder Fan:
He loves eating from his big Kong slow feeder bowl.
- Great with Baths & Nail Trims:
Zeke does great when you bathe him (if someone helps you) and trim his nails, including his dewclaws!

**Background & Rescue Story**

Zeke was rescued from a high-kill shelter in East Texas after his owner passed away, leaving him chained 24/7. Since his rescue, Zeke has blossomed into a confident, happy, and sweet companion who’s now ready for his forever home.

**The Perfect Home for Zeke**

Zeke is looking for an active household that can keep up with his playful energy. A home with another dog, a fenced yard (not required, just preferred), and opportunities for regular exercise would be ideal. If you're ready to welcome this affectionate and lively boy into your life, Zeke is more than ready to become your loyal companion!

DISCLAIMER- Breed type is determined based on general appearance and behavioral characteristics and cannot be guaranteed unless DNA test results or AKC registration were provided at intake.

***ZEKE IS FOSTERED IN MINNESOTA, BUT AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION AND TRANSPORT OUT OF STATE. Read below for more information.

Our dogs are transported to a predetermined location agreed upon by the rescue. The adoption contract and fee are finalized prior to transport. As a Pep's Pals Rescue direct adoption, the adoption interview/meet and greet occurs on video call (Skype, FB Messenger call, Facetime, etc).

Our adoption fee is $250 plus health certificate and transport if adopter can't travel to get him (varies by location). This fee includes all current vaccinations, deworming, microchip with lifetime registration, fecal analysis, neuter, and a heartworm test. All dogs are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention (he did test positive for heartworms, but he is going through treatment covered by the rescue & doesn’t require activity restriction - not contagious either & he will need to be retested in December). A health exam was completed at the end of September before he was transported to Minnesota.

Pep's Pals Rescue is committed to rescuing shelter & street dogs and cats then finding them forever homes. All dogs and cats deserve to live their lives showered with the love they deserve.
Pep's Pals is named after Pepper, a lab who gave so much love to the founder of Pep's Pals and her family. We carry on his legacy by loving and caring for the dogs & cats who need to know what it is like to be a part of a family. Pepper was kind to every human and fur friend he met. We believe that's how Pepper would want us to carry out our mission.
