My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I'm Cletus! I'm a very handsome Redbone Coonhound mix who is ready to find my forever home! I'm a sweetheart who loves people of all ages, as well as other dogs! I might be a little scared of a big dog at first, but if he is nice, then I will follow him around like the puppy dog that I am! I love to be around other dogs and would make a great brother or best friend for a playful canine. I'm young enough to learn how to respect cats and could even make a great pal for an active cat who likes dogs. I love to play and I'm quickly learning how to walk nicely on a leash. I haven't really started howling yet, but hound dogs tend to be vocal, so that might be something to look forward to as I get older. I'm going to be a big boy when I'm full grown, so I hope you like big dogs! If you want to be the lucky family to take me home, apply to meet me today!

Submit Application

Review our adoption process and complete our new online pet application. If you need assistance, call us or visit our Adoption Center!

2.
Approve Application

If you have had pets in the past 10 years, we will do a vet check and we will check with your landlord or HOA that you can have the pet.

3.
Meet the Pet

Once approved, everyone in your home will need to meet the pet. Also, any existing dog will need to meet a dog you want to adopt.

4.
Sign Adoption Contract

We will ask you to sign an adoption contract and pay our adoption fee - a schedule of fees is on our website.

We have one Adoption Center at 1901 W. Ogden Ave., Downers Grove, IL. Please come in to complete our pet application or fill it out online and we will contact you to schedule an appointment to meet our awesome dogs and cats!

The West Suburban Humane Society (WSHS) is a volunteer-based, no-kill animal rescue that was founded in 1972 in the western suburbs of Chicago. WSHS now finds homes for more than 500 dogs and cats each year!

WSHS is 100% funded by individual, corporate, and private foundations donations, and has over 450 active volunteers! WSHS is caring for about 200 animals at any given time.
