My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Stella!

Stella came to us through no fault of her own and is seeking her furever home! She is looking for someone who will be able to build her confidence as she is quite nervous of new people and situations. Once she has settled in and become comfortable she shows off how playful and sweet she is!

Stella has previously lived with other dogs and cats and got along with them although she was in a foster home and was not getting along with the resident cat so she had to be brought back to the shelter. Stella has also chased cats on occasion so we feel it would be best for her to go to a home with no cats. She is wary of dogs that get in her space and don't respect boundaries, she prefers calm dogs and slow, proper introductions.

She has been wary of men in the past but has made progress and has had good interactions with men during her time in the shelter, as long as they respect her boundaries and show good body language. Once she is comfortable with people and her environment she loves to run around playing and giving kisses! Stella loves to snuggle up on the couch and be around her people, soaking in all the love and attention.

Stella loves going for walks, especially at the beach! She does tend to pull, but has been making progress while wearing a harness. With positive reinforcement and loads of praise, you can give Stella the opportunity to come out of her shell and enjoy life without fear and anxiety holding her back!

If you're looking for a new best friend and think that Stella might be the one for you, send in an application!

The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Through its locations and operations across the province the BC SPCA provides emergency medical care and sheltering for more than 37,000 animals each year. The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

    Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

    Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

    Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

    1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

    2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

    3. Freedom from distress

    4. Freedom from discomfort

    5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
