Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Candy von Cadbury is a beautiful, 3-4-year-old German Shepherd. Candy is as sweet as her namesake and just as gentle (especially when playing or accepting treats). She enjoys being rubbed all over, but her favorite thing is having her ears scratched. Don’t be surprised if she leans in and nudges your hand for extra pets! Likely housebroken, Candy is an adventurer who loves exploring. She will stay close to you during walks and is a pro at strolling with other dogs. Candy knows the commands sit and down and approaches playtime calmly and happily. Although she prefers playing with male dogs over females, she is a friendly girl ready to socialize. (She votes no on cats however.) Spend time with this sweetheart, and you’ll sing “I Want Candy!”
Rescued from the Apple Valley animal shelter.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
