My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rudy ACCT-A-176950 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to medical concerns. Rudy must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by MONDAY, OCTOBER 7TH at 10AM. Should Rudy's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.

Rudy is a senior cat who came in as an owner surrender on 9/27 due to medical concerns. The owner told us Rudy started urinating outside of the litter 8 weeks ago, and now about twice a week his poop has blood in it. They also told us he is eating less than usual, is constantly vomiting, and is struggling with urinating. Diagnostics revealed that he has hematuria and pyuria (red blood cells and white blood cells in his urine), leading to a diagnosis of FLUTD or bacterial cystitis. During his initial exam, he was friendly and tolerant, and allowed pets from staff on 10/4. Due to his medical concerns, Rudy is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter who can give him a low-stress environment to recover in and help with the behavioral and dietary modifications he needs to thrive.

MEDICAL:
On 10/3, staff noted: CBC: no significant abnormalities. Chem: Globulin 6.8 g/dl, no other significant abnormalities. U/A: RBC, WBC, cocci. Hematuria, pyuria - r/o sterile FLUTD vs bacterial cystitis vs other. Convenia 0. 52 ml SQ. Cat was surrendered for a history of inappropriate urination, and diagnostics today reveal hematuria. Abx injection was given in case of bacterial cystitis, but FLUTD is more likely. Cat will likely require both behavioral and dietary modifications in an adoptive home and is at risk of developing a urethral obstruction in the stressful shelter environment.

Per vet exam 9/27: Friendly and tolerated handling and examination. Fur covered in fresh urine Mild generalized dental wear; moderate plaque and heavy dental tartar buildup; severe gingivitis with gingival recession of multiple dentition

Assessment: Patient is presenting as an ORE for a 2 week history of inappropriate urination and hematochezia. No medical notes were provided at the time of intake to determine any diagnosis or treatment. No concerns of a urethral obstruction at this time as an empty urinary bladder and fresh urine was appreciated. Blood in stool may be secondary to intestinal parasites v. GI disease v. constipation v. colitis. As patient remains bright and alert at this time and there is no specific diagnostic cause of his presentation, euthanasia will not be performed at this time. Continue to monitor urination, defecation, and appetite. Senior bloodwork and urinalysis +/- radiographs recommended to rule out underlying disease. If patient begins to show concerns of decline, euthanasia recommended.
Plan: Fortiflora PO SID x 3 days
Pathway: Continue to monitor eliminations and appetite.

Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging an animal.

ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details.

If you are a rescue interested in pulling this animal, please email our lifesaving team, or visit here if you are not currently a rescue partner: https://acctphilly.org/acct-philly-love-local-partnership-program/

Confirmed placement is considered a confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent.

All animals at ACCT Philly are from Philadelphia, as the only open-intake animal shelter in Philadelphia, we are not able to accept animals from outside of Philadelphia. ACCT Philly's Pennsylvania kennel license number is 08313.
