My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This gal, originally named Sunshine, was whisked to safety by NorthStar on her final day at a Texas kill shelter! Her owner was a homeless person who surrendered her to the shelter because of her age and health. NorthStar feels that Alma - her brand new name - still has plenty of living to do and they are committed to helping her enjoy golden years. Alma is 12 years old and weighs 12 pounds.

When Alma walked out of that Texas shelter, she jumped in the car and immediately crawled in the driver's lap and laid down. When she got to her Texas foster mom's house she made friends with one of the resident dogs right away. She also has a beautiful thick coat of fur - check out that fuzzy tail of hers! And doesn't she look fabulous in her read coat!

Foster mom says, "This little girl is so precious. I am absolutely going to cry my eyes out when she leaves my home. She is so grateful and affectionate and loving. I just can’t stand the thought of her having a terrible life before she was rescued. She’s an angel!"

Alma just had surgery to remove a mammary mass, a dental procedure and she was also spayed. Unfortunately, the tumors were malignant and clear margins were not obtainable. The vet's report stated this increases the likelihood that the tumors will recur. She is also being treated for an eye issue & the vet is going to do more testing to see what exactly is wrong. Alma is getting ready to start that new life of hers, thanks to NorthStar! Alma is spayed, microchipped and up to date on her vaccines. The adoption fee for this sweet girl is $250.

If you're interested in meeting this little senior gal, please fill out an adoption application at www.northstarpets.org and ask for her by name, ALMA TX!

More about this rescue

In many areas of the country, especially in the South, the situation for animals is desperate: Chained outside and starving, homeless and running loose, or just simply no longer wanted and abandoned in an overburdened and underfunded facility that can’t possibly take another. For these animals, there is not much hope…except to look in the night sky for the North Star, their only way out. We are a group of passionate volunteers committed to saving these innocent dogs and finding them a new forever home. NorthStar Pet Rescue was founded in 2017, and although we might be a relatively new name among New Jersey animal rescues, you may recognize some of us from the work we’ve done volunteering with other rescues to help animals over the past decade. We are 100% dedicated to operating in an safe, transparent, and ethical manner and to ensuring the best veterinary practices are followed with regards to the care and transport of our animals. NorthStar Pet Rescue is IRS 501(c)(3) charitable organization (EIN: 81-5348036).
