My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Basie, a 14-month-old Rat and Russell Terrier mix with a hint of Norwegian Elkhound—though he's yet to catch an elk! Weighing in at 23 pounds, Basie is full of energy and personality. He’s potty trained and sleeps through the night (though prefers to skip the crate). Basie knows commands like sit, stay, down, and spin, and is highly food-motivated, making him a quick learner.

While he's still working on leash manners due to some reactivity (especially around dogs and squirrels), he's a work in progress. Basie would thrive as the only dog in a home with kids aged 12 and up, where he can soak up all the attention. He loves being outdoors, so a fenced yard is a must to let him burn off his energy. With a high prey drive and a love for cuddles (on his own terms), Basie is looking for an experienced owner ready to continue his training and build a strong, trusting bond. If you’re ready for an affectionate, smart, and spirited companion, Basie could be the perfect fit for you!

The adoption fee of $1 50 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe breed, since our pups all come from shelters we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed!

Additional adoption info

Our adoption fees range from $100 - $500 depending on species,age and breed. For dogs/puppies this covers spay/neuter, microchip, dewormers, flea and tick preventative, heartworm test (only over 6 months of age) and all up to date, age appropriate vaccinations. Cats are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and dewormed. We require an adoption application and a home visit prior to adoption.

We schedule meets with approved adopters only, so you must download our PreAdoption Application from our website at www.starfishanimalrescue.com and follow the instructions to email it to us.

We are not a shelter. We are a group of pet lovers and advocates who are committed to targeted rescue. Starfish Animal Rescue is a licensed rescue that is run by an all volunteer staff.
Once we rescue a dog or cat, it is placed in one of our foster homes until we are able to find it a suitable home. We are happy to set up an appointment to meet our pets once we receive and review your completed application.

We do our best to process applications quickly but please understand that we are a foster based rescue and that our volunteers work jobs; many are full time. Once your application is reviewed, we will put you in contact with the dog's foster family to set up a time to meet the pet of your choice!

Starfish Animal Rescue has been rescuing and transporting cats and dogs from two shelters in Southeast Kentucky. Since Starfish's conception, we have been able to rescue and transport over 10.000 dogs and cats. We are always in need of volunteers, and donations. All of our adoptable pups are in loving foster homes, preparing for their forever home.
