Rookie is in a foster home and this is what she says:
Rookie is a 6 month old Pyrador!!! He looks like a Lab, but he has single dew claws on each back leg so there are Great Pyrenees in his DNA somewhere, so we are going with that! Rookie is estimated to be around 60 lbs when full grown. He is in a foster home and she says:
"Rookie was my foster puppy this past summer. Two months ago, he was adopted only to be returned last week due to being too much of a puppy for the elderly Shih Tzus in the house. Rookie is a leggy, Lab mix puppy, approximately 6-7 months old who loves to play with and hang out other dogs and people and just in general enjoy life to the fullest. He is really enjoying playing with my other foster dogs, Arnold, Myka and Lizzie."
"Ok, I have to update Rookie’s bio to tell you what this puppy is really like and this may not be pretty LOL!! Rookie is a drama king!!! He THINKS he has kung fu fighting skills and shows off his wresting style whenever he can (see photo of him with Carson). He believes lawn mowers are out to get him and barks the alarm! If you walk inside for a minute while he is outside, Rookie will whine a couple of times to let you know he profoundly feels your desertion and how dare you?! If he can’t run right to his food, he runs around frantically yelping while trying to get to his bowl before he starves. Rookie is literally unable to show people and other dogs enough of the love he feels for them. And lastly and the most embarrassing thing about Rookie…he thinks he is a bug hunter extraordinaire. He loves to dramatically pounce on bugs he finds in the yard! So... we gave it to you straight... Never a dull moment or never a smile on your face when you are with this dude.
This boy loves people, but can be shy at first. He is submissive to adult dogs, but once a friendship is started, Rookie is a wonderful doggie playmate, as he is hanging out with GRRAND dog Carson right now, and they LOVE to play!!! Rookie is very food motivated and will be easy to train and he automatically sits when his food bowl is offered. As far as housebreaking is concerned, Rookie has not had a single accident in his foster home which is awesome for a four month old puppy. Rookie has it all. He is an adorable, playful puppy, full of love and motivated to be a well-trained adult dog. What else could anyone wish for in a new companion"?
As he is just a puppy, he will need a home that abides by the GRRAND puppy guidelines:
Puppies are a lot of work, and if you are interested in a GRRAND puppy and have children, PLEASE SEE THE ADOPTION FAQs section of the website for more detailed info. GRRAND policies stipulate a few important things that may stop you from applying, and here are 2 big ones-
A: GRRAND will NOT place a puppy under the age of 6 months with families with children under 6 yrs old
B: Any applicant with children under the age of 16, will require a home with direct access to a securely fenced yard... meaning direct access to the yard from the home… so this means no apartments or condos.
This boy will need a home that can offer him the exercise and direction he needs to grow up to be a good puppy!
As we learn more, we will update, but if you would like to meet Rookie, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org
