My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The more we get to know Petrie, the more we fall in love. This lovable boy will make a great companion. Once he knows you and can tell that you want to be his friend, he will crawl right in your lap and be your best pal! Do you have a dog at home? Petrie has lived with other dogs before and could do well with a canine sibling who will allow Petrie to come around at his own pace.
Five Fun Facts About Your Future Pet: Petrie is a treat enthusiast, who enjoys almost any variety of freeze dried treats! Petrie is a gentle dog who enjoys cuddling stuffed toys, cuddling his human friends and his dog friends (Especially Chubbs!) He knows some tricks like "sit" and "down" and wants to follow his person anywhere they go! Petrie is truly a lap-dog at heart.

A team member shares, "Chubbs and Petrie - this dynamic duo are a lot of fun. They are beautiful pups, and really enjoy running around the dog park. They are doing really well learning to walk on leash."

Please allow plenty of time to meet your perfect pet. Once you have selected a pet, the adoption process will take at least 30 minutes. We do not begin the adoption process after 5:30 pm.

More about this shelter

Founded in 1965, Animal Humane New Mexico is the state’s leading private 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal welfare organization serving more than 10,000 homeless and at-risk dogs & cats each year. We never euthanize based on age or length of stay and since 2010, have re-homed 100% of healthy pets in our care. We support every companion animal at Animal Humane with outstanding veterinary, social and emotional care, and love.

As a private nonprofit shelter, we receive no city, state or federal funding; each dollar judiciously spent is earned or raised. We are nationally recognized as a top U.S. charity based on financial accountability, transparency, and administrative-to-program cost ratios. Animal Humane is among only 9 percent of nationwide charities to have received five consecutive annual four-star evaluations, the highest possible, from Charity Navigator, including a top score of 100 for accountability and transparency.
