My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Woof! Hi everyone, my name is Beckett! I’m a handsome 3-year-old male yellow lab mix, and I weigh 52 lbs. I was rescued by some really kind humans from a kill shelter down south. They brought me all the way to Michigan, and I absolutely love it here! The green grass and cooler weather are just perfect for me. I’ve heard there’s something called snow in the winter, and I can’t wait to see what that’s all about!

Let me tell you a bit about myself to see if we could be a good match. I can be a little shy and scared at first because I’m getting used having a family and being allowed inside a house (I am housebroken). But I’m loving all the affection and regular meals—I’m a bit skinny and need to gain some weight. I love playing with my foster brother and would do great in a home with another dog or as the only dog.

I need a family that will socialize me slowly and be patient with me. I love going on walks and do nicely on a leash, but the world is a big, scary place. I look around constantly while walking and get nervous around cars. I don’t chase them, but I do stop, stare and bark. I love going on car rides and often go with my foster mom when she gets gas or checks the mailbox.
I’m just going to be honest with you, I do not like being in a crate. It reminds me too much of the shelter. When my foster mom has to go to work, I miss her so much and have lots of energy. If my new home needs to be away from me during the day, I’ll need lots of playtime and walks in the morning and evening. In addition I love to play with other dogs so, hint hint, I would love to go to doggy daycare a few days a week. But my ideal situation would be an adopter who worked from home and let me sleep in the bedroom at night!

I’m also fully-vetted, microchipped and my adoption fee is $300. Thank you for listening to my story! I hope you’ll consider meeting me to see if we’re a good match. I’m waiting here in Canton, MI, for my perfect family. If you have any more questions about me, please email projecthoperescue@gmail.com. If you’re ready to bring me home, fill out the adoption application by visiting our website at www.projecthoperescue.org. Pawsitivly Yours, Beckett.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We require that the interested adopter come to meet the dog and then fill out an adoption application. We will review the application and then pass on to the dog's foster family (if applicable). We then contact the potential adopter's vet and we will also do a home visit. If all goes well, the adopter signs our adoption contract stating that, among other things, the dog will receive regular vet care and must be returned to us if things do not work out.

More about this rescue

We focus primarily on rescuing senior and special needs dogs in kill facilities. We are located on 30 acres of land in rural southern Michigan. We are a care-for-life facility, so any dog that does not or that we deem cannot be adopted will live with us for the rest of his/her life. Because we rescue the dogs that are not in high demand, it normally takes our dogs longer to find that perfect family. We believe that it takes a special family to adopt our special dogs.
